\Large{ \underline{ \bf{Required \: answer:}}}

Let's find the total money spent of the fruit vendor for purchasing and transporting the fruits.

 • 600 apples for $4800
 • $400 for transportation

Tota cost = 4800 + 400 = $5200

Now:

He need a profit of $1000

Then:

Selling price of the fruits = $6200 (Ans)

hint : first find the total cost that is needed to buy the apple and its transportation and then find the selling price of the apple assuming the profit as 1000.after that find the selling price of one apple by dividing the selling price of all apples by the number of apples.

step by step explanation:

it is given that the fruit vendor bought 600 apples for 4800.

he also spent 400 on transportation .

therefore the total cost price of fruit is equal to the sum of the cost of apples and cost transportation.that is,

total cost price = cost price + transportation

substitute 4800 as cost price and 400 as transportation in the above formula:

the cost price of the apple =4800+400=5200

therefore,the total cost price is 5200

the question is asking for a profit of 1000, then let us assume profit as 1000.that is ,

profit=1000

we know the formula of the selling price is given as :

selling price = cost price = profit

substitute 5200 as the value of cost price and 1000 as the value of profit in the above formula:

selling price =5200+1000

selling price=6200

therefore ,the selling price of all the apples is 6200 and there are 600 apples bought by the vendor.then the selling price of one apple is given as:

the selling price of one apple =\frac{6200}{600}

the selling price of each apple =10.33

therefore he has to sell each apple at the price of 10.33 to gain a profit of 1000.

note: note that the total cost is taken as all the money that is needed to buy the apple and other expenses ,like transportation .

A rectangular tank with a square base, an open top, and a volume of 8 comma 7888,788 ft cubedft3 is to be constructed of sheet
Vlad [161]

Answer:

 26 ft square by 13 ft high

Step-by-step explanation:

The tank will have minimum surface area when opposite sides have the same total area as the square bottom. That is, their height is half their width. This makes the tank half a cube. Said cube would have a volume of ...

 2·(8788 ft^3) = (26 ft)^3

The square bottom of the tank is 26 ft square, and its height is 13 ft.

_____

Solution using derivatives

If x is the side length of the square bottom, the height is 8788/x^2 and the area is ...

 x^2 + 4x(8788/x^2) = x^2 +35152/x

The derivative of this is zero when area is minimized:

 2x -35152/x^2 = 0

 x^3 = 17576 = 26^3 . . . . . multiply by x^2/2, add 17576

 x = 26

_____

As the attached graph shows, a graphing calculator can also provide the solution.
