a sample of compound determined to contain 1.71 g C and 0.287 g H. The corresponding empirical formula is
fiasKO [112]

Answer: The empirical formula is CH_2.

Explanation:

Mass of C = 1.71 g

Mass of H = 0.287 g

Step 1 : convert given masses into moles.

Moles of C = \frac{\text{ given mass of C}}{\text{ molar mass of C}}= \frac{1.71g}{12g/mole}=0.142moles

Moles of H = \frac{\text{ given mass of H}}{\text{ molar mass of H}}= \frac{0.287g}{1g/mole}=0.287moles

Step 2 : For the mole ratio, divide each value of moles by the smallest number of moles calculated.

For C =\frac{0.142}{0.142}=1

For H =\frac{0.287}{0.142}=2

The ratio of C: H = 1: 2

Hence the empirical formula is CH_2.

Compounds form as a result of chemical
vampirchik [111]

Answer:A compound is formed as a result of chemical reaction, between the constituent elements

Explanation:

A compound is formed as a result of chemical reaction, between the constituent elements. The properties of compound are different from the properties of the elements from which it is formed. Ex. Compounds can be further divided into three classes : acids, bases and salts, on the basis of their properties.

What is the approximate bond angle around the central carbon atom in acrolein?
Soloha48 [4]

Answer:

The approximate bond angle around the central carbon atom in acrolein is 120°.

Explanation:

The structure of acrolein is shown in the attachment. From the structure, we can deduce that the central carbon atom is in an sp2 hybridization (Atoms with a double bond hybridize in an sp2 fashion).

Atoms with sp2 hybridization have trigonal planar geometry, in this kind of hybridization, bonds are oriented the farthest away possible from each other, to minimize overlapping and the angle that allows that is 120°.

What is the mass, in grams, 6.5 mol of sodium nitrate (nano3)? please show all work?
ladessa [460]
Mass is the property of a physical body and the resistance to acceleration when a net force is applied on the body.
The atomic mass of sodium (Na) is = 22.98
The atomic mass of nitrate (N) is = 14.00
The atomic mass of oxygen (O) is = 15.99
The sodium nitrate (NaNO3) consists of the atomic masses of Na+N+(O)3 = 85 grams
Therefore, the mass of 6.5 mol of sodium nitrate is = 6.5 * 1 mol of NaNO3
 = 6.5 * (85)
 = 552.50 grams

Se dispone de 100 mL de una disolución 0.15M de hidróxido de
makkiz [27]

Answer:

pH = 13.18

Explanation:

pOH = -log[OH-] = -log(0.15) = 0.82

pH + pOH = 14

pH = 14 - 0.82 = 13.18
