Chemistry

The correct option is \boxed{\mathbf{B}}

Further explanation:

The law of conservation of mass states that matter cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction. For example, when wood burns, the mass of the ashes, and gases, equals the original mass of the charcoal and the oxygen on reaction. In this the mass of the product equals the mass of the reactant.

When two or more elements chemically interact to make a new substance are called reactant and the new substance that is formed as the result of a chemical reaction is called product. Mass and matter may not be created or destroyed, but it can change forms to other substances like liquids, gasses, solids.

According to law of conservation of mass, the mass of product is equal to the mass of reactant.

{\text{Mass of product}} = {\text{Mass of reactant}}

A)

In this the reactant Mg and oxygen reacts to form product MgO. {\text{Mass of MgO}} = {\text{mass of Mg}} + {\text{mass of oxygen}}…… (1)

Mass of Mg is 24g.

Mass of oxygen is 32g.

Mass of product (MgO) is 56 g.

Substitute these values in equation (1)

\begin{aligned}{\text{56 g}}&= {\text{24 g}} + {\text{32 g}}\\{\text{56 g}}&= {\text{56 g}}\\\end{aligned}

Hence, it follows law of conservation of mass. Therefore, option a is incorrect.

B)

In this 24 mL of Mg burn in 32 mL of oxygen and produces 56 mL of MgO. Volumes cannot be added as there is variation in volume when different substances are added. So, the reactant is not equal to the product.It does not show the law of conservation of mass. Hence, option b is correct.

C)

In this 2 atoms of Mg reacts with 1 oxygen atom to form 2 unit of MgO.

The chemical reaction that shows production of MgO is as follows:

{\text{2Mg}} + {{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}} \to {\text{2 MgO}}

Number of Mg atom is 2

Number of Oxygen atom is 2.

Number of MgO atom is 2.

The above reaction is balanced as number of atom in reactant is equal to number of atom in product. It follows law of conservation of mass. Hence, option c is incorrect.

D)

In this 1 atom of Mg react with 1 atom of O to produce 1 unit MgO.The number of atom of reactants and product are equals as MgO contains two atoms.It follows law of conservation of mass. Hence, option d is incorrect.

I think the correct answer from the choices listed above is option B.  <span>24 mL of Mg burn in 32 mL O2 to produce 56 mL of MgO </span>does not show the law of conservation of mass. Volumes cannot be added because there are volume effects when you add different substances. So, the reactants is not equal to the product.

How many moles of nitric acid are present in 35.0 ml of a 2.20 M solution?
vodomira [7]

Answer:

There are 77 millimoles of nitric acid present in 35.0 mL of a 2.20 M solution

Explanation:

Molarity of the solution = 2.20 M

Molarity=\frac{number\:of\:moles}{Volume\:of\:Solution\:in\:L}\\\\Number\:of\:moles=Molarity\times(Volume\:of\:Solution\:in\:L)\\\\Volume\:of\:Solution=35\:mL=35\times10^{-3}L\\\\Number\:of\:moles=2.20\times35\times10^{-3}=77\times10^{-3}\:moles\:of\:HNO_{3}

Therefore, there are 77 millimoles of nitric acid present in 35.0 mL of a 2.20 M solution

Use the ideal-gas law to estimate the number of air molecules in your physics lab room, assuming all the air is N2. Assume a roo
stiv31 [10]

Answer:

4.13×10²⁷ molecules of N₂ are in the room

Explanation:

ideal gases Law → P . V = n . R . T

Pressure . volume = moles . Ideal Gases Constant . T° K

T°K = T°C + 273 → 20°C + 273 = 293K

Let's determine the volume of the room:

18 ft . 18 ft . 18ft = 5832 ft³

We convert the ft³ to L → 5832 ft³ . 28.3L / 1 ft³ = 165045.6 L

1 atm .  165045.6 L = n . 0.082 L.atm/mol.K . 293K

(1 atm .  165045.6 L) / 0.082 L.atm/mol.K . 293K = n

6869.4 moles of N₂ are in the room

If we want to find out the number of molecules we multiply the moles by NA

6869.4 mol . 6.02×10²³ = 4.13×10²⁷ molecules

A disk of radius 2.0 cm has a surface charge density of 6.3 μC/m2 on its upper face. What is the magnitude of the electric field
maksim [4K]

Answer:

the electric field at Z = 12 cm is E =   9.68 × 10³ N/C = 9.68 kN/C

Explanation:

Given: radius of disk, R = 2.0 cm = 2 × 10⁻² cm, surface charge density,σ = 6.3 μC/m² = 6.3 × 10⁻⁶ C/m², distance on central axis, z = 12 cm = 12 × 10⁻² cm.

The electric field, E at a point on the central axis of a charged disk is given by E = σ/ε₀(1 - \frac{z}{\sqrt{z^{2} + R^{2} }  })

Substituting the values into the equation, it becomes

E = σ/ε₀(1 - \frac{z}{\sqrt{z^{2} + R^{2} }  }) = 6.3 × 10⁻⁶/8.854 × 10⁻¹²(1 - \frac{0.12}{\sqrt{0.12^{2} + 0.02^{2} } }) = 7.12 × 10⁵(1 - \frac{0.12}{0.1216}) = 7.12 × 10⁵(1 - 0.9864) = 7.12 × 10⁵ × 0.0136 = 0.0968 × 10⁵ = 9.68 × 10³ N/C = 9.68 kN/C

Therefore, the electric field at Z = 12 cm is E =   9.68 × 10³ N/C = 9.68 kN/C
