Modern wind turbines generate electricity from wind power. The large, massive blades have a large moment of inertia and carry a

great amount of angular momentum when rotating. A wind turbine has a total of 3 blades. Each blade has a mass of m = 5500 kg distributed uniformly along its length and extends a distance r = 46 m from the center of rotation. The turbine rotates with a frequency of f = 11 rpm.
Required:
a. Calculate the total moment of inertia of the wind turbine about its axis, in units of kilogram meters squared.
b. Calculate the angular momentum of the wind turbine, in units of kilogram meters squared per second.

Answer:

Explanation:

moment of inertia of each blade which is similar to rod rotating about its one end

= 1/3 ml²

moment of inertia of 3 blades = ml²

= 5500 x 46²

I = 11638 x 10³ kg m²

angular velocity = 2πn where n is rotation per second

n = 11 / 60

angular velocity = 2π x 11/60

= 1.1513 rad /s

angular momentum

= moment of inertia x angular velocity

=  11638 x 10³ x 1.1513

= 13399 x 10³ kg m² per second.

Which of the following is/are ALWAYS true concerning collision and transition state theory?
Scrat [10]

Answer:

1) Transition states are short-lived

Explanation:

Transition state theory explains the rates of elementary chemical reactions. It assumes a quasi-equilibrium between reactants and activated transition state complexes.

The following are the characteristics of transition states

  • Instability
  • Ill-defined
  • High energy
  • short-lived

The species that must collide for the reaction to occur are shown by the mechanism of reaction and not the balanced reaction itself

Intermediates are consumed in each step of the overall reaction, they are not short lived

A solid disk has a mass of 162 kg and a radius of 1.30m. This
RideAnS [48]

Answer:

754.3 m

Explanation:

The moment of inertia of the solid disk:

I = mR^2/2

Where m is the disk mass and R is the radius of the disk.

I = 162*1.3^2/2 = 136.89 kgm^2

The angular kinetic energy of the disk is then:

E_k = I\omega^2/2 = 136.89 * 18^2/2 = 22176.18 J

By law of energy conservation, this energy is converted to potential energy to pick up the 3kg block

let g = 9.8 m/s2

E_p = m_bgh = 22176.18 J

where m_b = 3 kg is the mass of block

3*9.8h = 22176.18

h = \frac{22176.18}{3*9.8} = 754.3 m

You calculate the density of a block of aluminum to be 2.68 g/cm3. You look up the density of a block of aluminum at room temper
Hunter-Best [27]

Answer:

Systematic errors.

Explanation:

The density of the aluminium was calculated by a human and this is not natural but can be due to errors in the calibration of the scale for measuring the weight or taking readings from the measuring cylinder.

Random errors are natural errors. Random errors in experimental measurements are caused by unknown and unpredictable changes in the experiment. Systematic errors are due to imprecision or problems with instruments.

How to derive the fourth equation of motion?
Leya [2.2K]

Answer:

To derive the fourth equation of motion, first we have to consider the equation for acceleration and then to rearrange it. or v2 = u2 + 2as and this equation of motion can be used to find the final velocity or the distance travelled if the other values are given.

Explanation:

v= u + at

s =( u + v ) t /2

s = ut + at2/2

v2 = u2 + 2as
