Soap bubbles can display impressive colors, which are the result of the enhanced reflection of light of particular wavelengths f

rom the bubbles' walls. For a soap solution with an index of refraction of 1.29, find the minimum wall thickness that will enhance the reflection of light of wavelength 709 nm in air.

Answer:

The value is  t = 1.374 *10^{-7} \ m

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

   The refractive index is  \mu =  1.29

    The wavelength is \lambda = 709 \  nm =  709 *10^{-9} \ m

Generally the condition for constructive interference is

          2 *  \mu  *  t = (n - \frac{1}{2} )\lambda

At minimum thickness(t)  the order of the fringe(n) will be equal to   1

So

         2 * 1.29   *  t = (1 - \frac{1}{2} )*  709 *10^{-9}

=>       t = 1.374 *10^{-7} \ m

Explain how we use a spectrometer to help us determine what stars and planets are made of?
BaLLatris [955]
We use a spectrometer to help us determine what stars and planets are made of by passing a light through various chemical elements, different spectral patterns are created. By matching those patterns up to patterns generated in a laboratory environment we can tell what the composition of a distant star or planet is.

To measure moderately low pressures, oil with a density of 9.0 x 102 kg/m3 is used in place of mercury in a barometer. A change
Yuki888 [10]

Answer:

Δ P =  13.24 Pa

Explanation:

Given that

Density of oil ,ρ₁ = 9 x 10² kg/m³

We know that density for mercury ,ρ₂  = 13.6 x 10³ kg/m³

The change in the height of column ,Δh = 1.5 mm

The pressure given as

P = ρ g h

Change in the pressure

Δ P =  ρ₁ g Δh

Now by putting the values

Δ P =  9 x 10² x 9.81 x 1.5 x 10⁻³    Pa

Δ P =  13.24 Pa

Therefor the change in the pressure will be 13.24 Pa.

1. A 700 kg satellite is in orbit 2.4 x 106 meters from the center of the Earth. What is the force of
nevsk [136]

Answer:

4.8 \cdot 10^4 N

Explanation:

The force of gravity acting on the satellite is given by:

F=\frac{GMm}{r^2}

where

G is the gravitational constant

M=5.98\cdot 10^{24} kg is the Earth's mass

m is the mass of the satellite

r is the distance of the satellite from the Earth's centre

Here we have

m = 700 kg

r=2.4\cdot 10^6 m

Substituting into the equation, we find:

F=\frac{(6.67\cdot 10^{-11})(5.98\cdot 10^{24})(700)}{(2.4\cdot 10^6)^2}=4.8 \cdot 10^4 N

<em>Note that the distance mentioned in the problem (2.4 x 10^6 meters) is not realistic, since it is less than the radius of the Earth (6.37 x 10^6 meters).</em>
