Ten years ago 53% of American families owned stocks or stock funds. Sample data collected by the Investment Company Institute in
stiks02 [169]

Answer:

a) The null and alternative hypothesis are:

H_0: \pi=0.53\\\\H_a:\pi

b) If 300 families were sampled, for a significance level of 5%, there is enough evidence to support the claim that a smaller proportion of American families own stocks or stock funds this year than 10 years ago (P-value = 0.001).

Step-by-step explanation:

The claim that we want to have evidence to support is that a smaller proportion of American families own stocks or stock funds this year than 10 years ago.

The hypothesis for this test should state:

- For the null hypothesis, that the population proportion is not significantly different from 53%.

H_0:\pi=0.53

- For the alternative hypothesis, that the population proportion is significantly less than 53%.

H_a: \pi

If 300 families are sampled, we can perform a hypothesis test for a proportion.

The claim is that a smaller proportion of American families own stocks or stock funds this year than 10 years ago.

Then, the null and alternative hypothesis are:

H_0: \pi=0.53\\\\H_a:\pi

The significance level is 0.05.

The sample has a size n=300.

The sample proportion is p=0.44.

The standard error of the proportion is:

\sigma_p=\sqrt{\dfrac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}=\sqrt{\dfrac{0.53*0.47}{300}}\\\\\\ \sigma_p=\sqrt{0.00083}=0.029

Then, we can calculate the z-statistic as:

z=\dfrac{p-\pi+0.5/n}{\sigma_p}=\dfrac{0.44-0.53+0.5/300}{0.029}=\dfrac{-0.088}{0.029}=-3.065

This test is a left-tailed test, so the P-value for this test is calculated as:

\text{P-value}=P(z

As the P-value (0.001) is smaller than the significance level (0.05), the effect is  significant.

The null hypothesis is rejected.

There is enough evidence to support the claim that a smaller proportion of American families own stocks or stock funds this year than 10 years ago.

A rectangle has sides in the ratio 1:3 a)Write down the length of the longer side of the length of the shorter side is: (i) 1 cm
Lera25 [3.4K]

(i) The length of the longer side is 3 cm

(ii) The length of the longer side is 6 cm

(iii) The length of the longer side is 15 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

A rectangle has sides in the ratio 1 : 3, we need to find the length of the longer side if:

  • The length of the shorter side is 1 cm
  • The length of the shorter side is 2 cm
  • The length of the shorter side is 5 cm

Let us use the ratio method to solve the problem

(i)

∵ The ratio of the two sides of the rectangle is 1 : 3

∵ The length of the shorter side is 1 cm

→  Shorter    :    Longer

→  1               :    3

→  1               :    x

By using cross multiplication

∴ 1 × x = 1 × 3

∴ x = 3

∵ x represents the length of the longer side

∴ The length of the longer side = 3 cm

The length of the longer side is 3 cm

(ii)

∵ The ratio of the two sides of the rectangle is 1 : 3

∵ The length of the shorter side is 2 cm

→  Shorter    :    Longer

→  1               :    3

→  2               :    x

By using cross multiplication

∴ 1 × x = 2 × 3

∴ x = 6

∵ x represents the length of the longer side

∴ The length of the longer side = 6 cm

The length of the longer side is 6 cm

(iii)

∵ The ratio of the two sides of the rectangle is 1 : 3

∵ The length of the shorter side is 5 cm

→  Shorter    :    Longer

→  1               :    3

→  5               :    x

By using cross multiplication

∴ 1 × x = 5 × 3

∴ x = 15

∵ x represents the length of the longer side

∴ The length of the longer side = 15 cm

The length of the longer side is 15 cm

wolverine [178]

Answer:

0.96 or .96

Step-by-step explanation:

40 divided by 100 = 0.4 to change the percent to a decimal

and multiply 2.40 to 0.4, 0.4 times 2.40 is 0.96 or .96

Aiden says that equivalent expressions always have the same number of terms. Is Aiden correct? If he is, explain why. If he is n
ad-work [718]
No. Because for example

4+5 is 9, which has 2 terms (4,5)
BUT
3+5+1 also equals 9, which has 3 terms (3,5,1)

Both equations are equivalent to eachother, but do not have the same amount of terms. This also goes for multiplication.

10x10 is 100, which has 2 terms

BUT

5x10x2 is also 100, which has 3 terms, therefor the answer does not determine the amount of terms in an equation.
