At its closest approach, a moon comes within 200,000 km of the planet it orbits. At that point, the moon is 300,000 km from the

other focus of its orbit, f2. The planet is focus f1 of the moon's elliptical orbit. How far is the moon from the planet when it is 260,000 km from f2?

Answer:

s₁ = 240,000 km

Explanation:

The distance between both the focuses f₁ and f₂ will be the sum of distances of the moon from each focus at a given point. Therefore,

s = s₁ + s₂

where,

s = total distance between the focuses = ?

s₁ = distance between f1 and moon = 200,000 km

s₂ = distance between f₂ and moon = 300,000 km

Therefore,

s = 200,000 km + 300,000 km

s = 500,000 km

Now, when the distance from f₂ becomes 260,000 km, then the distance from f₁(planet) will become:

s = s₁ + s₂

500,000 km = s₁ + 260,000 km

s₁ = 500,000 km - 260,000 km

<u>s₁ = 240,000 km</u>

A 0.50 mm-wide slit is illuminated by light of wavelength 500 nm.What is the width of the central maximum on a screen 2.0m behin
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

0.004 m

Explanation:

For light passing through a single slit, the position of the nth-minimum in the diffraction pattern is given by

y=\frac{n\lambda D}{d}

where

\lambda is the wavelength

D is the distance of the screen from the slit

d is the width of the slit

Therefore, the width of the central maximum is equal to twice the value of y for n=1 (first minimum):

w=2\frac{\lambda D}{d}

where we have

\lambda=500 nm = 5\cdot 10^{-7}m is the wavelength

D = 2.0 m is the distance of the screen

d=0.50 mm=5\cdot 10^{-4}m is the width of the slit

Substituting, we find

w=2\frac{(5\cdot 10^{-7} m)(2.0 m)}{5\cdot 10^{-4} m}=0.004 m

What will happen to people involved in handling Gamma rays if they are not providedwith lead coated apron and equipment without
Alexandra [31]

Answer:

When gamma rays pass through the human body, they ionize the tissue.  gamma ray ionization can affect healthy cells. When high levels of gamma rays bombard a body, a resulting dangerous ionization of tissue can cause skin cancer.

Starting from rest, a disk rotates about its central axis with constant angular acceleration. In 5.00 s, it rotates 14.8 rad. Du
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given:

Initial θ = 0 rad (from rest)

Final θ = 14.3 rad

Time, t = 5 s

B.

Angular velocity, w = dθ / dt

= (14.3 - 0)/5

= 2.86 rad/s

A.

Acceleration, ao = dw/dt

Initial angular velocity, wi = 0 rad/s (from rest)

Final angular velocity, wf = 2.86 rad/s

a = (2.86 - 0)/5

= 0.572 rad/s^2
