True or false: If we extracted DNA from thyroid and neural tissues, we would find the CALCA gene in both types of cells.

Answer:

True

Explanation:

The calcitonin/calcitonin gene-related peptide (CALCA) gene is used to encode different peptide sequences (i.e., calcitonin hormone, calcitonin-related peptides and katacalcin) through alternative RNA splicing. These peptides have different functions. Calcitonin is a hormone mainly produced by cells of the thyroid gland, which is involved in the control of levels of calcium and phosphate in the blood. Moreover, katacalcin is a peptide synthesized from the same precursor of calcitonin (and therefore also mainly produced by cells of the thyroid gland), which is implicated in both calcium regulation and skeletal maintenance. Finally, the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a peptide mainly produced by sensory nerves (type Aδ fibers ), which is involved in pain pathways. The CALCA gene has attracted considerable attention from geneticists because it is specifically expressed in neuroendocrine tissues in normal conditions and abnormally induced in septic conditions (i.e., during the body's extreme response to an infection).

An explanation for the difference in amino acids between lamprey hemoglobin and human hemoglobin is
IrinaVladis [17]

Explanation:the haemoglobin of lamprey is different from that of humans as it consists of characteriatics partly of vertebrates and partly of invertebrates.

It has a molecular weight equal to that of muscle haemoglobin but it is found to be very efficient in oxygen transport.

The haemoglobin in the oxygenated form is monomeric and undergoes association with diamers and Tetramers when they undergo disassociation.

A cell that is placed in distilled (plain) water will swell up because it fills
pav-90 [236]

Answer:

If a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, water will move into the cell. This causes the cell to swell, and it may even burst. A hypertonic solution means the environment outside of the cell has more dissolved material than inside of the cell. If a cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, water will leave the cell.

Resource partitioning results in: a move from the realized niche to the fundamental niche for both species. individuals of each
bazaltina [42]

Answer:

a move from the fundamental niche to the realized niche for both species.

Explanation:

The niche of an organism is the functional role of the organism in the community or the ecosystem as a whole. This include the environment an organism lives and all the jobs it does in it.

Fundamental niche refers to all the possible functional roles of an organism in an ecosystem while realized niche refers to the specific roles the organism is limited to as a result of resource limitation, competition or other factors.

Resource partitioning involves the division of limited resources among organisms so as to avoid competition within the niche.

Hence, resource partitioning causes a move from the fundamental niche of an organism to the realized niche of that organism.
