Answer:

C: solvent

Explanation:

When solvent dissolve the solute it form solution. Solvent is present in large quantity while solute is present in less amount. Solution is homogeneous mixture of solvent and solute.

The rule which is followed is "like dissolve like". Polar solvent always dissolve polar solute while non polar solvent dissolve non polar substances.

Let consider the example of water and sodium chloride.

Water is polar substance it consist of H⁺ and OH⁻ ions. Sodium chloride is also polar substance it consist of Na⁺ and Cl ⁻ ions. When sodium chloride is added into the water it get dissolved because water breaks the bond between sodium and chloride and convert it into positive and negative ions. Na⁺ are surrounded by OH⁻ while Cl⁻ are surrounded by H⁺ and salt get dissolved.

swat32

Answer: exothermic

EXPLANATION: any process in which heat energy is released is called an exothermic process. For example burning of wood produces heat, so combustion of wood is an exothermic process.

When chemicals were not mixed they were at room temperature and when we mix them exothermic reaction took place and heat was released which raised the temperature of mixture.
