Answer:

(Answer D)

Step-by-step explanation:

Please use " ^ " to indicate exponentiation:  y = -8x^2 - 2, y = -8x^2

The graph of y = -8x^2 is an inverted parabola with vertex at (0, 0).

That of y = -8x^2 - 2 is the same as above, except that the whole graph has been shifted 2 units down (Answer D).

The constant of proportionality is 1.25 and its meaning is the soup price per can
Step-by-step explanation:
The diagram below shows a proportional relationship between the number of cans of soup and the price.
1st:
$3.75 for 3 cans
per can
2nd:
$6.25 for 5 cans
per can
If x is the number of cans and y is the price of x cans, then

This means the constant of proportionality is 1.25 and its meaning is the soup price per can

What is the missing constant term in the perfect square that starts with x^2-12x
Ipatiy [6.2K]

Essentially, we are trying to find the missing constant term of (x - a)^2 (remember that we are subtracting a due to the negative sign in front of the second term). Let's expand this to see what we can work with:

(x - a)^2

  • Set up

x^2 - ax - ax + a^2 = x^2 - 2ax + a^2

  • FOIL and simplify

Now, we know the second term is 12x, so let's set the second term in the polynomial we just found equal to 12x:

2ax = 12x

  • Set up

2a = 12

  • Divide both sides of the equation by x

a = 6

  • Divide both sides of the equation by 2

We have found a = 6. We know the missing constant term is a^2, according to the polynomial we found earlier. Thus, the missing term is:

a^2 \Rightarrow 6^2 = 36

The missing constant term is 36.

STALIN [3.7K]
Answer:
1. -8,
2. 58
3. 0
4.
5. -14/8 or -1.75

Explanation:
1. You just plug in 8 for x into the g(x) equation
So, -(8)^2+7(8)= -8

2. You do the same thing you did for number one.
Plug in 13 for the h(x) equation
|2-4(13)|= 50
Then plug in -1 for the f(x) equation
-(-1)^2+7(-1)= -8
You then do as it says- subtract h(x) from f(x)
Which is 50-(-8) and you get 58.
(That subtraction sign turns into addition/ 2 negatives make a positive)

3. Same thing again.
Plug in what they gave you (3y-1) for X
8(3y-1)-9
You get 24y-17
You then subtract off the -17 and get 24y=17
Divide the 24 off and get y=17/24
Plug the Y back into the equation
8(3(17/24)-1)-9 and you get 0

*Im not a hundred percent sure I did this one right*

4. This is the same as number 3. Didn’t have time to solve this, but it’s the same steps as number 3 :)

5. This time they didn’t give you x so you set it up differently
Now you set the f(x) equation equal to -23
8x-9=-23
Add off the to the 23 to isolate the variable
8x= -14
Divide off the 8
X= -14/8 or -1.75
