A divalent metal oxide contains 60 % of metal. What is atomic weight of metal ?

Chemistry

Atomic weight of metal : 24

<h3>Further explanation </h3>

Proust states the Comparative Law that compounds are formed from elements with the same Mass Comparison so that compounds have a fixed composition of elements

Divalent metal oxide=XO

MW O = 16

MW XO₂ =  X+16

\tt \%mass=\dfrac{Ar~X}{X+16}\times 100\%\\\\0.6=\dfrac{X}{X+16}\\\\0.6(X+16)=X\\\\0.6X+9.6=X\\\\0.4X=9.6\rightarrow X=24

1) Why are the antimony and beryllium ions so small? Differentiate between the causes.
Viefleur [7K]
1. For this question, the adjective small must be percepted in a relative sense. This is because it is not the smallest ion (that would be hydrogen). It could be that the antimony and beryllium ions are smaller compared to their neutral forms. This is because they donate electrons when ionized. As a result, the electrons are reduced, so does the electron cloud which makes the radius much smaller.

2. The periodic table is arranged in terms of increasing atomic number. For neutral atoms, the number of protons (atomic number) is equal to the number of electrons. So, the farther we go down the table, the higher the atomic number. The higher the atomic number, the bigger the electron cloud which makes the atomic radius bigger. Because by definition, atomic radius is the length from the nucleus to the farthest electron from the nucleus.

Which answer is an isotope of 40/20x? <br><br> Question Pictured here:
Nesterboy [21]

An isotope of ₂₀⁴⁰X  ⇒₂₀⁴⁴X

<h3>Further explanation </h3>

The elements in nature have several types of isotopes

Isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons.

So Isotopes are elements that have the same Atomic Number (Proton)

In the following element notation,

\large {{{A} \atop {Z}} \right X}

X = symbol of elemental atom

A = mass number

  = number of protons + number of neutrons

Z = atomic number

   = number of protons = number of electrons, on neutral elements

For symbol of isotope X :

₂₀X⁴⁰ : atomic number = 20, mass number = 40

A. ₄₀²⁰X : atomic number = 40, mass number = 20, neutrons=20

B. ₂₀⁴⁰X²⁺ : atomic number = 20, mass number = 40, neutrons=20

C. ₂₁⁴⁰X : atomic number = 21, mass number = 40, neutrons=19

D. ₂₀⁴⁴X : atomic number = 20, mass number = 44, neutrons=22

2 UO2+ + 4 H+U4+ + UO22+ + 2 H2O is second order in UO2+ and third order overall. Complete the rate law for this reaction in the
mr Goodwill [35]

Answer:

r=k[UO_2^+]^2[H^+]

Explanation:

The given reaction is :-

2UO_2^++4H^+\rightarrow U^{4+}+UO_2^{2+}+2H_2O

According to the law of mass action:-

The rate of the reaction is directly proportional to the active concentration of the reactant which each are raised to the experimentally determined coefficients which are known as orders. The rate is determined by the slowest step in the reaction mechanics.

Order of in the mass action law is the coefficient which is raised to the active concentration of the reactants. It is experimentally determined and can be zero, positive negative or fractional.

The order of the whole reaction is the sum of the order of each reactant which is raised to its power in the rate law.

m = 2 =  is order with respect to UO_2^+

n = order with respect to H+

overall order = m+n = 3

n = 3 - m = 3 - 2 = 1

Rate law is:-

r=k[UO_2^+]^2[H^+]
