A block slides down a frictionless inclined ramp and experiences no significant air resistance. If the ramp angle is 17 degrees

above the horizontal and the length of the surface of the ramp is 20.0 m find the speed of the block as it reaches the bottom of the ramp assuming that it started from rest.

Answer:

10.71m/s

Explanation:

Mechanical energy is conserved since the ramp surface had no friction and the experiences no significant air resistance

Potential energy at the top of the ramp = mgh

where m is m, g = 9.8 m/s² ( acceleration due to gravity ) and h is height

since the length of the surface L of the ramp is 20.0 m and it is inclined at 17°

h, height = Lsinθ = 20 sin 17° = 5.85 m

kinetic energy of the block = \frac{1}{2}mv²

potential energy = kinetic energy

m × 9.8 × 5.85 m = \frac{1}{2}mv²

cancel m on both side

v = √(2 × 9.8 × 5.85) = 10.71m/s

A projectile is fired with an initial speed of 100 m/s and angle of elevation 30 degrees. The projectile eventually hits the gro
zaharov [31]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

launch velocity u=100\ m/s

Launch angle \theta =30^{\circ}

Range of Projectile R=\frac{u^2\sin 2\theta }{g}

R=\frac{100^2\times \sin (2\times30)}{9.8}

R=883.699\approx 883.7

Horizontal velocity remain same and only vertical velocity changes.

Initially vertical velocity is in upward direction but as soon as it reaches the ground its direction change but magnitude remain same.

u_y=100\sin (30)=50\ m/s

u_x=100\cos (30)=86.60\ m/s

u_{net}=\sqrt{(50)^2+(86.60)^2}

u_{net}=99.99\approx 100\ m/s

Anna is conducting an experiment to determine how weather affects cell phone reception. She is trying to decide the best way to
aev [14]

Answer:

D. Test a cell phone's reception in the exact same location under various atmospheric conditions

Explanation:

Components of an experiment:

Independent variable:

A manipulated variable, in an experiment or study, whose presence or degree incurs a change in the dependent variable.

Dependent variable:

A variable which is being studied in the experiment and is supposed to change with respect to the independent variable.

Control variable:

Control variable includes the variables which are of no concern in the experiment and must be constant so that they do not interfere with the results of the experiment. Change in control variable might affect the results of an experiment.

In Anna's experiment, the independent variable is the atmospheric conditions. The dependent variable is cell phone reception that will change according to the atmospheric conditions. All other things related to the experiment are control variables like cellphone, location of the cell phone. Both of these must stay constant to collect the best data.

Hence, the best option is D.

A solid object has a density of 2.85 g/cm3. According to Archimedes, what can be done to make this object float in water?
Juli2301 [7.4K]
2: It's not just the capillary action, but the pull from transpiration (the evaporation of water from the tree) that is used to pull water up from the roots.

The second question needs context. Strong bonds alone won't cause tension. I don't see how adhesion is different. High vapour pressure could do it, but it's the difference in pressures that'd cause tension (and the resistance of that pressure by the surface). So, a low and high pressure would be needed. Poorly worded question :(

1: "Adhesion is the tendency of certain dissimilar molecules to cling together due to attractive forces." [1]

3: The other three answere would not work. Think of a boat.

3: If you push gas, it will be compressed(get smaller). If you push liquid it will push something else. Thus, liquids are good for transferring force. This is a hydraulic system.

suppose the distance between the sun and the earth were quadrupled. what exactly (numerically) would happen to the gravitational
Wittaler [7]

Answer:

The gravitational force between the sun and the earth drops to (1/16) of its original value.

Explanation:

According to the gravitational law, gravitational force between two bodies is directly proportional the product of the masses of the two bodies and inversely proportional to the square of their distances apart.

If the two masses and the other constants of proportionality are held constant, the gravitational force between two bodies is inversely proportional to the square of their distances apart.

F ∝(1/R²)

If the initial gravitational force between the sun and the earth is given by F₀ and the distance between the sun and the earth is R₀.

F₀ = (k/R₀²)

where k is constant regardless of the values of corresponding gravitational forces and distances apart.

Then, let the new distance apart be R₁,

R₁ = 4 R₀

The new gravitational force between the sun and the earth, F₁ will be given by

F₁ = k/(R₁²)

Recall, R₁ = 4 R₀

F₁ = k/(4R₀)² = k/16(R₀²) = F₀/16

Hence, the gravitational force between the sun and the earth drops to (1/16) of its original value.
