, puck 1 of mass m1 ! 0.20 kg is sent sliding across a frictionless lab bench, to undergo a one-dimensional elastic collision wi

th stationary puck 2. Puck 2 then slides off the bench and lands a distance d from the base of the bench. Puck 1 rebounds from the collision and slides off the opposite edge of the bench, landing a distance 2d from the base of the bench. What is the mass of puck 2

Answer:

1 kg

Explanation:

Assuming that,

Δx(2) = v(2)t, where Δx(2) = d and v(2) = 2m1 / (m1 + m2) v1i

On the other hand again, if we assume that

Δx(1) = v(1)t, where Δx(1) = -2d, and v(1)t = m1 - m2 / m1 + m2 v1i

From the above, we proceed to dividing Δx(2) by Δx(1), so that we have

d/-2d = [2m1 / (m1 + m2) v1i] / [m1 - m2 / m1 + m2 v1i], this is further simplified to

1/-2 = [2m1 / (m1 + m2)] / [m1 - m2 / m1 + m2]

1/-2 = 2m1 / (m1 + m2) * m1 + m2 / m1 - m2

1/-2 = 2m1 / m1 - m2, if we cross multiply, we have

m1 - m2 = -2 * 2m1

m1 - m2 = -4m1

m2 = 5m1

From the question, we're told that m1 = 0.2 kg, if we substitute for that, we have

m2 = 5 * 0.2

m2 = 1 kg

If a 20 kg box is accelerating upward at 8 m/s^2 , what is the magnitude of the upward force
shusha [124]

Answer:

356 N

Explanation:

Newton's second law of motion describes the relationship between an object's mass and the amount of force needed to accelerate it.

here there is a weight acting downwards on the object , yet it is accelerating  upwards shows that there is a net force upwards

Applying Newtons second law of motion upwards ,

Force  = mass *acceleration

Upward force - m*g = m *a

F_up= 20 *8 + 20 * 9.8

         = 356 N

Upward force= 160 N

Everything we know about stars comes from studying their _____.
denis-greek [22]
Light / Radiation. The light radiation defines its color. Thermal radiation for its temperature and the overall appearance of the wavelengths the star emits gives off the info from where astronomers and scientist are able to build up knowledge on the age and current state of the stars

A person can run 280 m in 68 s. At what speed are they running?
ella [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

Hi there,

280 miles in 68 seconds

280/68 in 1 second

= 4.12 miles per second

or 4.12 x 60

247.2 miles per minute

or 247.2 X 60

= 14832 miles per hour

Hope this helps :-)
