Multiples of 10 are: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70,...    

Multiples of 12 are: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84,..  

We can see that least common multiple of 10 and 12 is 60, therefore, it will take 60 seconds for both trains to cross the finish line together the first time.
