An intervention is a defined as any treatment based upon clinical judgement and knowledge, that a nurse performs to enhance patient/client outcomes. The nursing interventions are interventions that nurses do on behalf of patients both independent and collaborative and both direct and indirect care. They fall within three major categories; those using interpersonal skills, those using cognitive skills and those using technical skills. Selection of a given category  to be used in a patients or clients situation depends on the patient's dysfunction and functional requirements and the best available evidence.<span />
