Negative numbers can be integers. Only irrational can't be integers. If it can be written as a ratio then it's an integer.

An integer is any whole number. Negative whole numbers are called Negative Integers. Any decimals or fractions that are not whole (1/2; 3.14) are not integers. Fractions that ARE whole (2/2) are integers. And yes, 0 is an integer.

If k(x) = x^2 and p(x) = k(x) + n, what is the value of n?
kodGreya [7K]

Answer:

The value of n is -6

Step-by-step explanation:

  • If the function f(x) is translated k units up, then its image is g(x) = f(x) + k
  • If the function f(x) is translated k units down, then its image is g(x) = f(x) - k
  • The vertex form of the quadratic function is f(x) = a(x - h)² + k, where a is the coefficient of x² and (h, k) is the vertex

∵ k(x) = x²

→ Its graph is a parabola with vertex (0, 0)

∴ The vertex of the prabola which represents it is (0, 0)

∵ The given graph is the graph of p(x)

∵ Its vertex is (0, -6)

∴ h = 0 and k = -6

∵ a = 1

→ Substitute them in the form above

∴ p(x) = 1(x - 0)² + -6

∴ p(x) = x² - 6

→ Substitute x² by k(x)

∴ p(x) = k(x) - 6

∵ p(x) = k(x) + n

→ By comparing the two right sides

∴ n = -6

∴ The value of n is -6

What is the equation of the line that passes through the point (-6, -8) and has a slope of 1/3
ivanzaharov [21]

Answer <u>(assuming it can be in point-slope form)</u>:

y + 8 = \frac{1}{3} (x+6)

Step-by-step explanation:

With the given information, we can use the point-slope formula, y-y_1 = m (x-x_1), to write the equation of the line. Substitute values for the m , x_1, and y_1 in the formula to do so.

The m represents the slope, so substitute \frac{1}{3} in its place. The x_1 and y_1 represent the x and y values of one point the line intersects, so substitute -6 for x_1 and -8 for y_1. This gives the following answer and equation (just make sure to convert the double negatives into positives:

y-(-8) = \frac{1}{3} (x-(-6))\\y + 8 = \frac{1}{3} (x+6)
