A driver traveling in her 16-foot SUV at the speed limit of 30 mph was arrested for running a red light at 15th and Main, an int
Lynna [10]

Answer:

(a) Yes

(b) 102.8 ft

Explanation:

(a)First let convert mile per hour to feet per second

30 mph = 30 * 5280 / 3600 = 44 ft/s

The time it takes for this driver to decelerate comfortably to 0 speed is

t = v / a = 44 / 10 = 4.4 (s)

given that it also takes 1.5 seconds for the driver reaction, the total time she would need is 5.9 seconds. Therefore, if the yellow light was on for 4 seconds, that's not enough time and the dilemma zone would exist.

(b) At this rate the distance covered by the driver is

s = v_0t + \frac{at^2}{2}

s =44*1.5 + 44(4.4) - \frac{10*4.4^2}{2} = 162.8 (ft)

Since the intersection is only 60 feet wide, the dilemma zone must be

162.8 - 60 = 102.8 ft

Before you calculate the moment capacity for a steel beam, you have to determine the classification of beam.
kirill [66]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

True - because different classification of steel beam have different yield strength.

The moment capacity for a steel beam is given by;

M = Mn / Ωₙ

where;

M - the maximum moment acting on the beam

Ωₙ - is the Safety Factor for Elements in Bending = 1.67

Mn - nominal moment of the steel, given as

M_n = Z_x *f_y

where;

Zₓ - the Plastic Section Modulus in the x or strong axis.

f_y - is the Yield Strength of the Steel (A36W, A46 W or A50W)

A36W = 36 ksi

A46 W = 46 ksi

A50W = 50 ksi

Thus, before you calculate the moment capacity for a steel beam, you have to determine the classification of beam, for the yield strength of the steel beam.

g (b) (4 pt) Write a function unique that identifies the repeated elements of a list and returns a list with unique elements. $
Taya2010 [7]

Answer:

I am writing a Python function unique()

def unique(list):  # function unique that takes a list as parameter

 unique_list = []  #list to store unique elements

 for elements in list:  # loop that checks every element of the list

   if elements not in unique_list:  # takes unique elements from list

     unique_list.append(elements)

#appends unique elements  from list to unique_list

 return unique_list      #outputs unique_list elements

Explanation:

The unique() function takes a list as argument which is named as list.

unique_list is a new list which stores unique element from the list.

The loop moves through the elements of the list one by one.

if condition checks if the element in list is not present in the unique_list which means that element is unique to the unique_list.

If this condition is true this means that the element is not repeated and is not already present in unique_list. Then that element is included to the unique_list using append() function which appends an element into the unique_list from the list.

If you want to check if this function works you pass a list with repeated elements to this function so that it can print the unique elements as follows:

print(unique([1,2,2,2,2,3,4,4,4,4,4,5]))

Output:

[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

The screen shot of the function along with its output is attached.
