Hemophilia is a disorder in which the blood fails to clot normally because it lacks enough blood-clotting proteins resulting in excessive bleeding from injuries. Other symptoms include:
Unexplained and excessive bleeding after surgery
Large or deep bruises
Pain or swelling in knees and joints
Presence of blood in urine or stool
Bleeding into the brain which could sometimes occur from slight knocks to the head
It is a genetic disorder in that it occurs due to a defect in the genes. The disorder is located in the X chromosome found in females. Diagnosis is through genetic testing.
