This phenomenon happens with smell, taste, sight, hearing, and touch, in other words, with the five senses.

In the described situation, we can see that as Brad smelled the sweet odor constantly, his sensory receptors became less aware of the overwhelming smell and allowed him to pay attention to other stimuli in the bakery.
