Clear Lake has a surface area of 70 ha. In April the inflow of the lake was 1.5 m3/sec. A dam regulated the outflow of the lake

to be 1.25 m3/sec. If the precipitation recorded for the month of April was 7.62 cm and the storage volume increased by an estimated 650,000 m3. What is the estimated evaporation in cubic meters?

Answer:

The estimated evaporation is 51340 cubic meters.

Explanation:

Let suppose that precipitation is very small in comparison with depth of the Clear Lake. The monthly change in the volume of the lake (\Delta V), in cubic meters, is estimated by the following formula:

\Delta V = A\cdot \Delta z + (\dot V_{in}-\dot V_{out})\cdot \Delta t -V_{evap} (1)

Where:

A - Surface area of the lake, in square meters.

\Delta z - Water precipitation, in meters.

\dot V_{in} - Average water inflow, in cubic meters per second.

\dot V_{out} - Average water outflow, in cubic meters per second.

\Delta t - Monthly time, in seconds.

V_{evap} - Evaporation, in cubic meters.

If we know that A = 700000\,m^{2}, \Delta z = 0.0762\,m, \dot V_{in} = 1.5\,\frac{m^{3}}{s}, \dot V_{out} = 1.25\,\frac{m^{3}}{s}, \Delta t = 2.592\times 10^{6}\,s and \Delta V = 650000\,m^{3}, then the estimated evaporation is:

650000 = 701340-V_{evap} (2)

V_{evap} = 51340\,m^{3}

The estimated evaporation is 51340 cubic meters.

What is the approximate theoretical maximum efficiency of a heat engine receiving heat at 627°C and rejecting heat to 27°c? a)-2
AysviL [449]

Answer:

The correct option is  (e) η = 0.66

Explanation:

given data:

temperature at entry is 627 degree C

temperature at exit is 27 degree C

the efficiency of a engine is given as η

\eta = (1-\frac{T_{L}}{T_{H}})*100

where T_{L} is temperature in kelvin at exit point

          T_{H} is temperature in kelvin at entry point

\eta = (1-\frac{27+273}{627+273})*100

η = 66.66 %

9. The baseball catcher throws a ball vertically upward and catches it in the same spot as it returns to themitt. At what point
SSSSS [86.1K]

Answer:

Explanation:

  • At what point in the ball’s path does it experience zero velocity ; This will occur at maximum height.
  • Because at maximum height, acceleration due to gravity comes into play with negligible air resistance.

What is the effect of the workpiece specific cutting energy on the cutting forces, and why?
ella [17]

Explanation:

Specific cutting energy:

   It the ratio of power required to cut the material to metal removal rate of material.If we take the force required to cut the material is F and velocity of cutting tool is V then cutting power will be the product of force and the cutting tool velocity.

Power P = F x V

Lets take the metal removal rate =MRR

Then the specific energy will be

    sp=\dfrac{F\times V}{MRR}

If we consider that metal removal rate and cutting tool velocity is constant then when we increases the cutting force then specific energy will also increase.

If a mineral fractures, how many directions of cleavage does it have?
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

Cleavage occurs in straight lines in a mineral, with different minerals exhibiting 1, 2, or 3 directions of cleavage. Fractures however are irregular and follow how specific pattern or cleavages
