The main reason why the colonies met for the Albany Congress was "<span>C) for the colonies to unite and defeat the French," since they wanted to form better relations with the Natives in order to achieve this goal during the French and Indian War. </span><span />
<span>The state constitutions allowed for civil liberties, a separation of powers (so one branch could not become too powerful compared to the others), checks and balances (for the same reason), and limited government.</span>
Civilians did things such as mend clothing for soldiers, make ammunition from household silver, and many women followed their husbands to the battlefield where they washed, mended, and cooked for troops. Very few were able to fight in combat, but some women did.
