1st equation—x, substitute y: 
<span>3x + 2(x + 3) = 16 </span>
<span>3x + 2x + 6 = 16 </span>
<span>5x = 10 </span>
<span>x = 2 </span>

<span>y in the above equation: </span>
<span>= 2 + 3 </span>
<span>= 5 </span>

<span>Answer: x = 2, y = 5</span>
