The lifetimes of 10,000 watch batteries are normally distributed the mean lifetime is 500 days the standard deviation is 60 days

sketch a normal curve that represents this distribution label the mean and 3 standard deviations

Given:
μ = 500 days, the population mean
σ = 60 days, the population standard deviation

Therefore
μ + σ = 560
μ - σ = 440
μ + 2σ = 620
μ - 2σ = 380
μ + 3σ = 680
μ - 3σ = 320

The figure shown below illustrates the normal distribution
About 68% of the total area lies in x = (μ-σ, μ+σ)
About 95% of the total area lies in x = (μ-2σ, μ+2σ)
About 99.7% of the total area lies in x = (μ-3σ, μ+3σ).

I have a box of chocolates with white, milk and dark chocolate in. The ratio of white to not white is 3:4. The ratio of not dark
Scrat [10]

white : milk : dark

w : m : d

The ratio of white to not white is 3:4

w : (m+d) = 3:4

The ratio of not dark to dark is 17:4.

(w+m) : d = 17:4

---------

We treat the colons as fraction bars and cross multiply.

4w = 3(m+d) = 3m + 3d

4w + 4m = 17 d

Subtracting,

4m = 17d - (3m+3d) = 14d - 3m

7m = 14 d

m/d = 14/7

m:d = 2:1

Since w:(m+d)=3:4 let's make m+d a multiple of 4.

m:d = 8:4

w : (m+d) = 3:4 = 9:12

w:m:d = 9:8:4

Answer: 9:8:4

Check:

white to non white 9 to 8+4=12 = 3:4, good

non dark to dark (9+8):4=17:4, good

What is the perimeter to the nearest 10th of a unit
Viktor [21]
Remember that perimeter is the sum of the lengths of the sides. The way to find the length of the sides is \sqrt{ ( x_{2} - x_{1} )^{2} * ( y_{2} - y_{1} )^{2} } where (x_{1},y_{1}) is one endpoint of one line, while (x_{2},y_{2}) is the other endpoint of the same line. Repeat this formula for each side and add them all together to get your perimeter

If the shadow of a tree is 14 m long and the shadow of a person who is 1.8 m tall is 4 m long, how tall is the tree?
MrRa [10]

Answer: \frac{x}{14}=\frac{1.8}{4}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let 'x' be the height of tree.

The length of shadow of a tree = 14 m

The length of shadow of a person =4 m

The height of person = 1.8 m

<em>Since both man and tree are standing vertical to the ground. </em>

<em>Assume the formation of shadow is happening at the same time then the angle that the sun hits the earth making shadows of both person and tree will be equal.</em>

By direct proportion , we have

\frac{\text{height of tree}}{\text{length of shadow of tree }}=\frac{\text{height of person}}{\text{length of shadow of person}}\\\\\Rightarrow\frac{x}{14}=\frac{1.8}{4}
