An electron is released from rest in a uniform electric field. The electron accelerates vertically upward, traveling 4.50 m in t

(a) 5.69 N/C, vertically downward

We can calculate the acceleration of the electron by using the SUVAT equation:

d=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2

where

d = 4.50 m is the distance travelled by the electron

u = 0 is the initial velocity of the electron

t=3.00 \mu s = 3.0 \cdot 10^{-6} s is the time of travelling

a is the acceleration

Solving for a,

a=\frac{2d}{t^2}=\frac{2(4.50)}{(3.0\cdot 10^{-6})^2}=1.0\cdot 10^{12} m/s^2

Given the mass of the electron,

m=9.11\cdot 10^{-31} kg

We can find the electric force acting on the electron:

F=ma=(9.11\cdot 10^{-31})(1.0\cdot 10^{12})=9.11\cdot 10^{-19}N

And the electric force can be written as

F=qE

where

q=-1.6\cdot 10^{-19}C is the charge of the electron

E is the magnitude of the electric field

Solving for E,

E=\frac{F}{q}=\frac{9.11\cdot 10^{-19}}{-1.6\cdot 10^{-19}}=-5.69 N/C

The negative sign means that the direction of the electric field is opposite to the direction of the force (because the charge is negative): since the force has same direction of the acceleration (vertically upward), the electric field must point vertically downward.

(b) Yes

We can answer the question by calculating the magnitude of the gravitational force acting on the electron, to check if it is relevant or not. The gravitational force on the electron is:

F=mg

where

m=9.11\cdot 10^{-31} kg is the mass of the electron

g=9.81 m/s^2 is the acceleration due to gravity

Substituting,

F=(9.11\cdot 10^{-31})(9.81)=8.93\cdot 10^{-30}N

We see that the gravitational force is basically negligible compared to the electric force calculated in part (a), therefore we can say it is justified to ignore the effect of gravity in the problem.

Tres litros de oxigeno gaseoso a 15 grados centígrados y a presión atmosférica (1atm), se lleva a una presión de 10mm de Hg. ¿ c
lana [24]

Answer:

Three liters of gaseous oxygen at 15 degrees Celsius and at atmospheric pressure (1atm), is brought to a pressure of 10mm Hg. What will be the volume of the gas now if the temperature has not changed?

Explanation:

Given that, the temperature is constant

Then, using gay Lussac law

P1•V1 / T1 = P2•V2 / T2

Since temperature is constant

Then, T1 = T2 = T and they cancels out

So, we are left with

P1•V1 = P2•V2

Given that, .

Initial volume

V1 = 3 litres.

Initial pressure

P1 = 1atm = 101325 Pa

Final pressure

P2 = 10mmHg = 1333.22 Pa

Then, we want to find the final volume V2

Make V2 subject of formula.

V2 = V1•P1 / P2

V2 = 3 × 101325 / 1333.22

V2 = 288 litres

So, the final volume is 288 litres.

In Spanish

Dado que la temperatura es constante

Luego, usando la ley gay de Lussac

P1 • V1 / T1 = P2 • V2 / T2

Como la temperatura es constante

Entonces, T1 = T2 = T y se cancelan

Entonces, nos quedamos con

P1 • V1 = P2 • V2

Dado que, .

Volumen inicial

V1 = 3 litros.

Presión inicial

P1 = 1atm = 101325 Pa

Presión final

P2 = 10 mmHg = 1333.22 Pa

Entonces, queremos encontrar el volumen final V2

Hacer V2 sujeto de fórmula.

V2 = V1 • P1 / P2

V2 = 3 × 101325 / 1333.22

V2 = 288 litros

Entonces, el volumen final es de 288 litros

Conduction is the transfer of heat in:<br> 1 gases<br> 2 liquids<br> 3 solids
kykrilka [37]

Answer:

Conduction heat transfer is the transfer of <em>heat by means of molecular excitement within a material without bulk motion</em> of the matter.

Explanation:

Conduction heat transfer in gases and liquids is due to the collisions and diffusion of the molecules during heir random motion.

A box is pulled with a horizontal force of 500N and moves 5m what is work done
dalvyx [7]
The answer to the question is shown below:

We all know that formula for solving work done is the force multiplied by distance covered:
Work done = Force x distance
Distance = 5m
Force = 500 N
Work done = 500 N * 5m
Work done = 2500 J

If a = 8i + j - 2k and b = 5i - 3j + k show that a) a x b = -5i - 18j - 29k b) b X a = 50 + 18j +29k
loris [4]

Recall the definition of the cross product with respect to the unit vectors:

i × i = j × j = k × k = 0

i × j = k

j × k = i

k × i = j

and that the product is anticommutative, so that for any two vectors u and v, we have u × v = - (v × u). (This essentially takes care of part (b).)

Now, given a = 8i + j - 2k and b = 5i - 3j + k, we have

a × b = (8i + j - 2k) × (5i - 3j + k)

a × b = 40 (i × i) + 5 (j × i) - 10 (k × i)

… … … … - 24 (i × j) - 3 (j × j) + 6 (k × j)

… … … … + 8 (i × k) + (j × k) - 2 (k × k)

a × b = - 5 (i × j) - 10 (k × i) - 24 (i × j) - 6 (j × k) - 8 (k × i) + (j × k)

a × b = - 5k - 10j - 24k - 6i - 8j + i

a × b = -5i - 18j - 29k
