A block with mass of 10 kg is on a frictionless surface. One hand on the left side of the block is pushing it to the right. A se
igomit [66]

Answer:

W_2=-12J

Explanation:

The work of force 2 will be given by the vectorial equation W_2=F_2.d. We know the value of F_1 and have information about its movement, which relates to the net force F=F_1+F_2.

About this movement we can obtain the acceleration using the equation v_f^2=v_i^2+2ad. Since it departs from rest we have a=\frac{v_f^2}{2d}.

And then using Newton's 2dn Law we can obtain the net force F=ma, thus we will have F_2=F-F_1=ma-F1=\frac{mv_f^2}{2d}-F_1

And we had the work done by force 2 as:

W_2=F_2.d=\frac{mv_f^2}{2}-F_1d

(The sign will be given algebraically since we take positive the direction to the right.)

With our values:

W_2=\frac{(10kg)(2m/s)^2}{2}-(8N)(4m)=-12J

<em>Another (shorter but maybe less intuitive way for someone who is learning) way of doing this would have been to say that the work done by both forces would be equal to the variation of kinetic energy:</em>

<em>W_1+W_2=K_f-K_i=K_f=\frac{mv_f^2}{2}</em>

<em>Which leads us to the previous equation straightforwardly.</em>

Why is energy efficiency important to society’s need to be efficient with energy usage?
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

To save the unnecessary bills and carbon emissions.

Explanation:

Energy efficiency is important to society in the following ways:

1. It saves the unnecessary bills as buildings who are using energy efficiently have less demands.

2. Saving energy for the future generations as we know low demand would save the sources.

3. Energy efficiency is also important to society in environmental ways at efficient energy means low carbon emissions.

3.A golf ball is hit of it’s tee, 200m down the fairway.
Alinara [238K]

<u>Answers:</u>

3. The diagrams showing the forces acting on the golf ball are in the figure attached. Let’s have a detailed look:

a) Here the ball is under 2 forces:

F1 which is called The Normal force and is perpendicular to the surface of the tee where the ball rests

-F1, related to the gravity force, to the weight of the ball, and has the same magnitude, but the opposite direction (That’s why it has a negative sign).

In this case the sum of the forces is 0

b) Here we have again forces F1 and –F1, but in this very moment the club strikes the ball and we have:

F2, the force of the strike

c) While the ball is in its flight, it is under the following forces:

F1, the force of the lift through the air

-F2, the gravity force

-F3, the force of air resistance, also called drag

F4, the tangencial force of the ball flight

4. Here are the sizes and directions of the resultant forces:

i)Two forces of the same magnitude or size are applied to this block, but in opposite directions (in the x-axis). This is expressed as:

F=-10N+10N=0 The resulting force is zero

ii) Two forces of different size and opposite directions in the y-axis are applied to this block. The sum of the forces is:

F=30N-40N=-10N This means the resulting force is 10N applied downwards

iii) In this case the only force applied to the block is -5N applied downwards

iv) Here there are four forces applied to the block.

In the y-axis we have to forces of the same size but opposite directions:

F1=10N-10N=0 This means the applied force in the y-axis is zero

In the x-axis we have two forces of different size and opposite directions:

F2=-15N+10N=-5N This means the resulting force is applied to the –x-side

A 0.10 kg meter stick is held perpendicular to a vertical wall by a 2.5 mm string going from the wall to the far end of the stic
il63 [147K]

Explanation:

a)

Sum of moments = 0 (Equilibrium)

T . cos (Q)*L = m*g*L/2

cos Q = \frac{\sqrt{(2.5^2 - L^2) } }{2.5}

T*\frac{\sqrt{(2.5^2 - L^2) } }{2.5} * L = 0.1 *9.81*L/2

T = \frac{2.4525}{\sqrt{(2.5)^2 - L^2} }

b) If the String is shorter the Q increases; hence, Cos Q decreases which in turn increases Tension in the string due to inverse relationship!

c)

T = \frac{1.962}{\sqrt{(2)^2 - L^2} }
