For other ppl looking at this question here's the answer.
First you have to put $x+8$ and $2x-1$ equal
Like this $x +8=2x-1$
Then you have to get x on one side 
So Add 1 to both sides which cancels out the $-1$
And you have $x+9=2x$ left 
Then subtract x from both sides 
And you get $x=9$.

You have to first get the x by its self by canceling it out so subtract 3 and what you do to one side you do to the other. so that means that -3(-3) two negatives = a positive so thats 6 so what you should have now is    x+6
