If two students from this college are selected at random, what is the probability that they are both males?
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer:

P(A_1 and A_2) = P(A_1) *P(A_2)= 0.3*0.3 =0.09

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming this problem :"Only 30% of the students in a certain liberal arts college are males. If two students from this college are selected at random, what is the probability that they are both males?"

Previous concepts

An independent event is an "event that has no connection to another event's chances of happening ". For this case we can assume that if one person is male and if we select another one the probability that this one would be male or female is totally indepedent from the first selection.

When we have two independent events let's say A and B and we want to find the probability that both events occurs at the same time we can use the following formula:

P(A and B) = P(A)*P(B)

Solution to the problem

We can define some notation:

A_1 first person selected is a male

A_2 second person selected is male

On this case we want the probability that both would be males. And we can express this like this on math terms:

P(A_1 and A_2)

For this case we can assume that the two events are independent. And in order to find the probability for two events independents events we just need to multiply the probabilities of each one like this:

P(A_1 and A_2) = P(A_1) *P(A_2)= 0.3*0.3 =0.09

Each day, the human heart pumps about 7500 liters of blood. As a simple approximation, assume that the work done by the heart is
erik [133]

Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

We are given

Volume of blood=V=7500 L=7500\times 0.001=7.5 m^3

1 liter=0.001 m^3

Height of person=h=1.5 m

Density of blood,\rho=1050 kg/m^3

We have to find the work done and power of person's heart.

We know that

Work done,W=mgh=\rho Vgh

Where g=9.8 m/s^2

Using the formula

W=1050\times 7.5\times 9.8\times 1.5=1.16\times 10^5 J

Time,t=1 day=24\times 60\times 60=86400 s

Power, P=\frac{W}{t}

Using the formula

P=\frac{1.16\times 10^5}{86400}=1.34 Watt

X^2-4x+3=0 solutions <br>larger and smaller solutions
andrew11 [14]

Answer:

x = 3 or x = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Solve for x over the real numbers:

x^2 - 4 x + 3 = 0

Subtract 3 from both sides:

x^2 - 4 x = -3

Add 4 to both sides:

x^2 - 4 x + 4 = 1

Write the left hand side as a square:

(x - 2)^2 = 1

Take the square root of both sides:

x - 2 = 1 or x - 2 = -1

Add 2 to both sides:

x = 3 or x - 2 = -1

Add 2 to both sides:

Answer: x = 3 or x = 1
