For a particular experiment at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, electrons are each accelerated to an energy of exactly

50 GeV. Note: You may assume that the rest mass of an electron is exactly 0.5 MeV/c^2 for this problem.
Required:
a. What is the velocity of each electron?
b.The accelerator is 3km long. At the velocity in (a), how much time, as measured by the moving electrons, does it take the electrons to travel the length of the accelerator.
c. How long does the accelerator look from the perspective of the electrons?

Answer:

a) 0.99999 e

b) 1*10^-5 s

c) 3*10^-2 m

Explanation:

Given data:

Electron energy : 50 GeV

assuming the rest mass of an electron = 0.5 MeV/c^2

A) Determine the velocity of each electron

velocity of each electron ( v ) ≈ 0.999 e

B) How much time does it take the electrons to travel the length of the accelerator given that the accelerator = 3km long

Lo = 3 * 10^3 m

T = (3 * 10^3 )/ (0.999 * 3 * 10^8)

   = 1 * 10 ^-5

C) How long does the accelerator look form the perspective of the electrons

L = Lo / r  = Lo \sqrt{1 - \frac{r^2}{v^2} }

hence L = 3 * 10^-2 m

What affect does doubling the net force have on the acceleration of the object (when
Triss [41]
<h3>Answer: The acceleration doubles</h3>

===========================================================

Explanation:

Consider a mass of 10 kg, so m = 10

Let's say we apply a net force of 20 newtons, so F = 20

The acceleration 'a' is...

F = ma

20 = 10a

20/10 = a

2 = a

a = 2

The acceleration is 2 m/s^2. Every second, the velocity increases by 10 m/s.

---------------

Now let's double the net force on the object

F = 20 goes to F = 40

m = 10 stays the same

F = ma

40 = 10a

10a = 40

a = 40/10

a = 4

The acceleration has also doubled since earlier it was a = 2, but now it's a = 4.

---------------

In summary, if you double the net force applied to the object, then the acceleration doubles as well.

Luden [163]

Answer:

Explanation:

From your other post, the complete question is:

"You are pulling a sled using a horizontal rèpe, as shown in the diagram. The rope pulls the sled. exerting a force of 50 N to the right. The snow exerts a friction force of 30 N on the sled to the left. The mass of the sled is 50 kg.

Find the sum of the force on the sled.

Determine the acceleration of the sled .

If the sled has an initial velocity 2m/s to the right, how fast will it be traveling after 5 seconds?

"

Given the rope exerting a force of 50 N to the right and the snow exerts a friction force of 30 N to the left, the sum of forces

= 50 - 30

= 20N to the right

The mass of sled is 50 kg and force = mass * acceleration.

Acceleration = Force / mass

= 20 / 50 = 0.4 m/s^2 to the right

If the sled has an initial velocity 2m/s to the right, after 5 seconds it will be traveling at initial velocity + acceleration * time

= 2 + 0.4*5

= 4 m/s to the right
