Well, here are the characteristics of ionic compounds: 1) Because of the electrostatic force of attraction (one of the strongest force), these types of compounds are usually rigid. 2) High melting points (like REALLY high compared to other colavent compounds). Ex. table salt (NaCl melts at 1714 degrees fahrenheit, while CH4 melts at -295 degrees fahrenheit). See the drastic difference? 3) Majority of ionic compounds dissolve easily in water. Notice how I say majority, as some ionic compounds are insoluble in water, and this just have to do with their intermolecular attraction between themselves relative to that between the ions and water. If for any reason you need to know these solubility characteristics, just google solubility table or something along that line. 4) When dissolved in a solution, any ionic compound can conduct electricity because the ions are floating freely and can therefore transfer electrons around. In their solid form, however, they cant because all the ions are stuck in place and cant move around. 5) Ionic compounds form a really specific shape, and all the ions are orderly placed and evenly distributed in the crystal lattice. The geometric shape of the compound is a chemical property, which means that it varies across species.

Answer:

The correct answer is When melted they DO NOT conduct an electric current.

Explanation:

I looked for the same question to know which options it gives as answers and the one that did not correspond to a characteristic of ionic compounds is that when melted they DO NOT conduct an electric current.

To melt the solid, the ionic bonds must be broken, separating the ions with opposite charges from each other. This generates that they become good conductors when molten, since the ions are free to move through the liquid and thus can carry an electric current.

How are some mutations similar? Provide examples.
Hatshy [7]

Answer:

Mutations can be caused by high-energy sources such as radiation or by chemicals in the environment. They can also appear spontaneously during the replication of DNA. Mutations generally fall into two types: point mutations and chromosomal aberrations. In point mutations, one base pair is changed. A single mutation can have a large effect, but in many cases, evolutionary change is based on the accumulation of many mutations with small effects. Mutational effects can be beneficial, harmful, or neutral, depending on their context or location. Most non-neutral mutations are deleterious.

HELP. What change in state occurs when water boils? And why does this change happen??
Lapatulllka [165]
Boiling is the process by which a liquid turns into a vapor when it is heated to it’s boiling point. The change from a liquid phase to a gaseous phase occurs when the vapor pressure of the liquid is equal to the atmospheric pressure exerted on the liquid. Boiling is a physical change and molecules are not chemically altered during the process.
Hope that helped!
