Dr. Equipment _________ $22,000

Cr.Reserve Account _____$19,800

Cr. Depreciation expenses $2,200

2022

Dr. Depreciation Expense ___ $14,000

Cr. Accumulated Depreciation $14,000

2023

Dr. Depreciation Expense ___ $14,000

Cr. Accumulated Depreciation $14,000

Explanation:

2022

Calculate the net book value

Net book value = Historical cost - Accumulated depreciatin = $140,000 - $58,000 = $82,000

Unrealised profit on the sale of the asset = Cash receipt - Nreet book value = $104,000 - $82,000 = $22,000

Annual Depricaiton = Historical cost / remaining life = $140,000 / 10 = $14,000

Excess depreciation charged = Unrealised profit / Remaining life = $22,000 / 10 = $2,200

What criteria do accountants use to decide whether to use present or future values in accounting statements?
Airida [17]

Answer:

Present value is nothing but how much future sum of money worth today. It is one of the important concepts in finance and it is a basis for stock pricing, bond pricing, financial modeling, banking, and insurance, etc. Present value provides us with an estimated amount to be spent today to have an investment worth a certain amount of money at a specific point in the future. Present value is also called a discounted value. It is an indicator for investors that whatever money he will receive today can earn a return in the future. With the help of present value, method investors calculate the present value of a firm’s expected cash flow to decide if a stock is worth to invest today or not.

The formula for calculating PV is shown below

PV = CF/ (1+r)n

Here ‘CF’ is future cash flow, ‘r’ is a discounted rate of return and ‘n’ is the number of periods or year.

Example

Let’s say that you have been promised by someone that he will give you 10,000.00 Rs 5 year from today and interest rate is 8% so no we want to know what the present value of 10,000.00 Rs which you will receive in future so,

PV = 10,000/ (1+0.08)5

PV = 6805.83 (To the nearest Decimal)

So present-day value of Rs 10,000.00 is Rs 6805.83

Dodge, Incorporated acquires 15% of Gates Corporation on January 1, 2013, for $105,000 when the book value of Gates was $600,000
nata0808 [166]

Answer:

Goodwill 35,000 debit

   Investment in Gates 25,000 credit

  Retained Earnings 10,000 credit

--to adjust for change of method--

Explanation:

600,000 x 15% = 90,000

purchased at 105,000

goodwill of 15,000

+ 150,000 x 15% of net income = 22,500

- 50,000 x 15% dividends = (7,500)

investment at the end of 2013:

90,000 + 22,500 - 7,500 = 105,000

Then we purchase 25%

105,000 represent 15%

thus 25% would be: 105,000 / 0.15 x 0.25 = 175,000

purchased at 200,000

goodwill of 25,000 to be recognized.

So, equity method will be:

105,000 + 175,000 = 280,000 for the proportional equity

and 15,000 + 25,000 = 35,000 goodwill

Total of 315,000

While fair value will not recognize goodwill. and also, the investment is not modified when dividends and the gain for the year are delcared.

It measure at cost unless the market value of the stock decrease so we got:

105,000 1st purchase + 200,000 2nd purchase = 305,000

To adjust we are going to decrease investment by 25,000 and increase goodwill by 35,000 the other will go into retained earnings to balance out.
