Explain how the peace of Augsburg, the edict of Nantes, and the peace of Westphalia all strengthened secular rulers
Debora [2.8K]

A secular ruler is one that is not guided by any particular form of religion. These 3 events were part of a gradual process that resulted in rulers adopting secularism.

 1. Peace of Augsburg: Signed in 1555, made it possible for rulers of the Holy Roman Empire to choose between Protestantism or Catholicism as their choice of belief.
 2. Edict of Nantes: Signed in 1598, granted the Protestants of France rights in the nation. Before this event, Protestants of France were considered as heretics.
 3. The Peace of Westphalia: Series of peace treaties signed in 1648 that ended the Religious Wars in Europe.

kvasek [131]

The European exploration and conquest of the western hemisphere generated intense social, religious, political and economic competition in Europe, which helped to promote the building of an empire. During that time, they experienced the increase of wealth, power, population and status. Europeans converted many people from the Americas to Christianity. There was a shift from feudalism to capitalism, as well. With the advance of technology, they were also able to organize new international trade strategies.
