So you can substitute equation 2 in equation 1.

U believe your equation 2 should read y= x/2 + 20 (the x is next to the 1 and not to the 2, right)

So after substituting, we have:

(x/2)+20+3x = -1

Multiply the whole equation by 2:

x + 40 + 6x = -2
7x = -2-40
7x = -42
x = -6

Replace x=-6 in equation 1:

y + 3(-6) = -1
y - 18 = -1
y =17

A four-foot tree was planted. It will grow 2.5 feet each year. The relationships between x, the number of years since the tree h
Andrew [12]

The relation between these two variables can be represented by the linear equation:

y = 4ft + 2.5ft*x

How to write an equation that represents this relationship?

We know that the original height of the tree was 4 ft, and it grows 2.5 feet each year.

Then if we define the variables:

y = height.

x = number of years.

The relation between these two variables can be represented by the linear equation:

y = 4ft + 2.5ft*x

This linear equation relates the height of the tree as a function of the number of years since it was planted.

What is the sum (2/5x + 5/8) + (1/5x - 1/4)? a. 3/5 x + 1/8 b. 3/5 x + 3/8 c. 3/5x + 5/8 d. 3/5x + 7/8
ozzi

Answer:

3/5x + 3/8

Step-by-step explanation:

2/5x + 5/8 + 1/5x - 1/4

1. Combine like terms so now u have

3/5x + 3/8

In case you want to know how I got 3/8

You want a common denominator so

from 5/8 + 1/4, make both denominator 8

so 1 *2/ 4* 2

so now you converted the 1/4 to 2/8

So then 5/8 - 2/8 gives u 3/8 and that's how i got 3/8

Hope this helped!
