E: 86

F: 234

G: 90

Explanation:

Nuclear fission is when an unstable nucleus splits into 2 smaller, more stable nuclei. This process releases large amounts of energy because it takes a lot less energy to hold a smaller nucleus's structure. People take advantage of this process by converting its thermal energy emission into electrical energy.

Nuclear fusion is the opposite. It is the process of fusing 2 nuclei into one bigger, more stable nucleus. Since this process requires incredible amounts of energy, it occurs in the sun. This also releases huge amounts of energy. The smallest possible element that can be produced from this process is helium, which is made of 2 protons. 1 proton is the smallest element (H).

When completing nuclear fission reactions, each side must add up to have the exact same total mass number (top number), and same total atomic number (bottom number).

Which transition metals usually form only one monatomic cation? select all that apply.
lyudmila [28]

Zn, Cd, and Ag are transition metals that usually form only one monoatomic cation.

A monatomic cation is a cation made of only one atom.

Cations are positively charged ions, in this example Ag⁺, Cd²⁺ and Zn²⁺.

These cations form only one type of ion, while iron and copper form more than one type of cations.

Iron and copper form cations with different charges (Fe²⁺, Fe³⁺, Cu⁺, Cu²⁺).

It depends on electron configuration which type would be formed.

Electron configuration of zinc atom: ₃₀Zn 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 3d¹⁰ 4s²

Transition metals are elements in the d-block of the Periodic table.

How is an elements outer electron configuration related to its position in the periodic table?
Umnica [9.8K]
Well, if you look at group 1 of the periodic table, you will notice a thrend. All elements in group 1 have 1 valence / outer electron. Then you look at period 2, 3, 4 and so on, you will see that the group number corresponds the number of valence/ outershell electrons. Hence, the group determines the electron(s) on the outershell.

How many moles of Al are necessary to form 23.6 g of AlBr₃ from this reaction: 2 Al(s) + 3 Br₂(l) → 2 AlBr₃(s) ?
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

0.088 mole of Al.

Explanation:

First, we shall determine the number of mole in 23.6 g of AlBr₃.

This is illustrated below:

Mass of AlBr₃ = 23.6 g

Molar Mass of AlBr₃ = 27 + 3(80) = 267 g/mol

Mole of AlBr₃ =.?

Mole = mass/Molar mass

Mole of AlBr₃ = 23.6 / 267

Mole of AlBr₃ = 0.088 mol

Next, we shall writing the balanced equation for the reaction.

This is given below:

2Al(s) + 3Br₂(l) → 2AlBr₃(s)

From the balanced equation above,

2 moles of Al reacted with 3 mole of Br₂ to 2 moles AlBr₃.

Finally, we shall determine the number of mole of Al needed for the reaction as follow:

From the balanced equation above,

2 moles of Al reacted to 2 moles AlBr₃.

Therefore, 0.088 mole of Al will also react to produce 0.088 mole of AlBr₃.
