You stand on a bridge above a river and drop a rock into the water below from a height of 25 m. (Assume no air resistance)
Ilia_Sergeevich [38]

PART a)

here when stone is dropped there is only gravitational force on it

so its acceleration is only due to gravity

so we will have

a = g = 9.8 m/s^2

Part b)

Now from kinematics equation we will have

y = v_i t + \frac{1}{2} at^2

now we have

y = 25 m

so from above equation

25 = 0 + \frac{1}{2}(9.8 )t^2

t = 2.26 s

Part c)

If we throw the rock horizontally by speed 20 m/s

then in this case there is no change in the vertical velocity

so it will take same time to reach the water surface as it took initially

So t = 2.26 s

Part D)

Initial speed = 20 m/s

angle of projection = 65 degree

now we have

v_x = vcos\theta

v_x  = 20 cos65 = 8.45 m/s

v_y = vsin\theta

v_y = 20 sin65 = 18.13 m/s

PART E)

when stone will reach to maximum height then we know that its final speed in y direction becomes zero

so here we can use kinematics in Y direction

v_f - v_y = at

0 - 18.13 = (-9.8) t

t = 1.85 s

so it will take 1.85 s to reach the top

gas stored in a tank at 273 k has a pressure of 50kpa. what happens to the volume when the pressure is decrease due to the added
AfilCa [17]

I can't think of any way that pressure can be decreased due to added pressure.

Be that as it may, and it certainly still is ...

No matter what you do to the pressure or the temperature of
the gas in that tank, the volume doesn't change.  Any sample
of gas always expands to fill the container in which it's confined.
Its volume doesn't change until you either transfer it to another
container with different volume, or else change the volume of
the container it's in.

A 50.0-kg box rests on a horizontal surface. The coefficient of static friction between the box and the surface is 0.300 and the
Dimas [21]

Answer:

98N and 147N

Explanation:

We have the following information:

m=50kg\\\mu_s =0.4\\\mu_k = 0.2\\F=140N

We can find the static fricton force as follow,

F=\mu_s * N

Where N is the normal force (mg)

F=0.3*50*9.8\\F=147N

Static friction force at 147N is greater than the force applied hence body does not move.

F=\mu_k N = 0.2*50*9.8= 98N

A string that is restricted at both ends has a length of 1.50 m. what is the wavelength of the string’s fundamental frequency?
lara31 [8.8K]
Since it is restricted at both ends, λ/2 = length of string

λ/2 = 1.5m
λ = 1.5*2 = 3m
