If the cell membrane didn’t allow nutrients to pass through, the mitochondria wouldn’t be able to produce chemical energy for the nucleus, and the nucleus would stop working, which would cause the cell to gradually die. Without the nucleus, cellular reproduction and division wouldn’t be able to take place. Hope this helps!!
