Repair calls are handled by one repairman at a photocopy shop. Repair time, including travel time, is exponentially distributed,

with a mean of 1.6 hours per call. Requests for copier repairs come in at a mean rate of 2.1 per eight-hour day (assume Poisson).
a. Determine the average number of customers awaiting repairs. (Round your answer to 2 decimal places.)
Number of customers
b. Determine system utilization. (Round your answer to the nearest whole percent. Omit the "%" sign in your response.)
System utilization %
c. Determine the amount of time during an eight-hour day that the repairman is not out on a call. (Round your answer to 2 decimal places.)
Amount of time hoursd. Determine the probability of two or more customers in the system. (Do not round intermediate calculations. Round your answer to 4 decimal places.)

Answer:

the average number of customers awaiting repairs = 0.30

the system utilization = 42

the amount of time that the repairman is not out on a call is  = 4.64 hours

the probability of two or more customers in the system = 0.1764

Explanation:

Given that :

Repair time, including travel time =  mean of 1.6 hours per call.

Requests for copier repairs = mean rate of 2.1 per eight-hour day

i.e mean rate R = 2.1/day

Time = 8 hours

thus; mean rate μ = 8 hours/ 1.6 hours = 5

(a)

Let the average number of customers awaiting repairs be I_i :

I_i = \dfrac{R^2}{\mu (\mu-R)}

I_i = \dfrac{2.1^2}{5 (5-2.1)}

I_i = \dfrac{4.41}{5 (2.9)}

I_i = \dfrac{4.41}{14.5}

\mathbf{I_i = 0.30}

the average number of customers awaiting repairs = 0.30

(b) Determine system utilization.

The system utilization is determined as follows:

\delta = \dfrac{R}{\mu}

\delta = \dfrac{2.1}{5}

{\delta = 0.42}

\mathbf{\delta = 42}

(c) The amount of time during an eight-hour day that the repairman is not out on a call is calculated as :

Percentage of Idle time = 1 - \delta

Percentage of Idle time = 1 - 0.42

Percentage of Idle time = 0.58

However during an 8 hour day; The amount of time that the repairman is not out on a call is = 0.58 × 8 = 4.64 hours

(d)

the probability of two or more customers in the system by assuming Poisson Distribution is:

P(N ≥ 2) = 1 - (P₀+ P₁)

where;

P₀ = 0.58

P₁ = 0.58  × 0.42 = 0.2436

P(N ≥ 2) = 1 - ( 0.58 + 0.2436)

P(N ≥ 2) = 1 - 0.8236

P(N ≥ 2) = 0.1764

Thus; the probability of two or more customers in the system is 0.1764

Joetz Corporation has gathered the following data on a proposed investment project (Ignore income taxes.):
MAVERICK [17]

Answer:

IRR = 27.46%

Explanation:

Initial investment = $32,500

15 annual cash inflows of $7,000 + ($32,500 / 15) = $9,166.67

the required rate of return is used to calculate NPV, not IRR, so we will not use it.

In order to calculate the IRR, you have to use a financial calculator or an Excel spreadsheet and the IRR function:

IRR = 27.46%

A VC investor has invested $5 million in the preferred stock of a venture that is now being acquired for $50 million. The invest
Scorpion4ik [409]

Answer: $12.5 million

Explanation:

The best payoff the VC investor can get from the acquisition will be:

From the question, we've two options. The first option using the 2x Liquidation Preference will give a payoff of:

= 2 × $5 million

= $10 million

The second option using 25% of Common Shares will give a payoff of:

= 25% × $50 million

= 0.25 ÷ $50 million.

== $12.5 million

Therefore, the best Payoff is $12.5 Million.

Mary Jarvis is a single individual who is working on filing her tax return for the previous year. She has assembled the followin
natali 33 [55]

Answer:

a. What is Mary’s federal tax liability?

$20,243.75

b. What is her marginal tax rate?

25%

c. What is her average tax rate?

average tax rate for ordinary income = $18,293.75 / $90,000 = 20.33%

average tax rate on all of Mary's taxable income (including long term capital gains) = $20,243.75 / $103,000 = 19.65%

Explanation:

Since the personal exemption is $4,000, I assume that this question takes place during 2015.

total ordinary income = $82,000 (salary) + $12,000 (dividend income) + $5,000 (interest income) + $2,500 (short term capital gains) = $101,500

long term capital gains = $13,000

taxable ordinary income = $101,500 - $4,000 - $7,500 = $90,000

tax liability on ordinary income = $5,156.25 + [($90,000 - $37,450) x 25%] = $18,293.75

tax liability on long term capital gains = $13,000 x 15% = $1,950

total tax liability = $20,243.75
