Often scientists use rate of change equations in their study of population growth for one or more species. In this problem we st

udy systems of rate of change equations designed to inform us about the future populations for two species that are either competitive (that is both species are harmed by interaction) or cooperative (that is both species benefit from interaction. Which system of rate of change equations below describes a situation where the two species compete and which system describes cooperative species? Explain your reasoning.
a. dx/dt= -5x + 2xy
b. dx/dt= 4x-2xy
c. dy/dt= -4y + 3xy
d. dy/dt= 2y-xy

Answer:

a: cooperative.

b: competitive.

c: cooperative.

d: competitive.

Step-by-step explanation:

The rate of change:

dx/dt

gives information about how the quantity x changes as a function of time.

If dx/dt > 0, the population x increases as the time passes.

if dx/dt < 0, the population x decreases as the time passes.

Now, let's analyze the options:

a) dx/dt= -5x + 2xy

in this case, x represents one population and y represents the other population. Where x and y should only be positive numbers because we can not have a negative population.

Notice that in this case, if y increases, then dx/dt increases.

Then we have cooperative species because the population y helps the growth of population x.

b) dx/dt = 4*x - 2*x*y

Similar to the previous case, but now as the value of y increases, the value of dx/dt decreases, then we have competitive species.

c) dy/dy = -4*y + 3*x*y

Notice that now we have the rate of change of y, in the right side, we can see that as x increases, also the rate of change dy/dt.

Then the population x helps to increase the population y, which means that the species are cooperative.

d) dy/dt = 2*y - x*y

Now as x increases, the value of dy/dt decreases, then these species are competitive.

serious [3.7K]

Step-by-step explanation:

Well first let's find the derivative in using the power rule

h'(t) = (-4.9)t + 157

h'(t) = -9.8t + 157

we can see from the image above that the maximum height is 1452.602 so that is the answer to the second question.

h'(1452.602) = -9.8(1452.602) + 157

h' = 14,078.500

ABCD is a rectangle. The measure of angle BCE is 4x-23 and the angle measure of angle DCE is 5+5x. Find the measure of angle BEC
Temka [501]
<h2>Explanation:</h2><h2></h2>

The diagram for this problem is shown below. Point E is the intersection of the two diagonals and we know that:

\angle BCE=\beta \\ \\ \angle DCE=\theta

Every internal angle of any rectangle measures 90 degrees, so:

\beta +\alpha=90 \\ \\ (4x-23)+(5+5x)=90 \\ \\ \\ Isolating \ x: \\ \\ (4x+5x)+(5-23)=90 \\ \\ 9x-18=90 \\ \\ 9x=108 \\ \\ x=\frac{108}{9}=12

So:

\beta=4x-23=4(12)-23=25^{\circ}

So the measure of angle BEC can be found as follows:

We know that triangle ΔCEB is an isosceles triangle because the diagonals of any rectangle measure the same. So

\angle EBC=\beta

The sum of internal angles of any triangle add up to 180 degrees, so:

\beta + \beta+\angle BEC=180^{\circ} \\ \\ 2\beta+\angle BEC=180^{\circ} \\ \\ \angle BEC=180^{\circ}-2\beta \\ \\ \angle BEC=180^{\circ}-2(25^{\circ}) \\ \\ \angle BEC=180^{\circ}-50^{\circ} \\ \\ \boxed{\angle BEC=130^{\circ}}}

Determine the longest side in ΔDEF.
Helen [10]

Option D:

Segment DF

Solution:

Let us first define the relationship between the side and angle in triangle.

<u>Relationship between the side and angle in triangle:</u>

  • The shortest side is always opposite to the smallest interior angle.
  • The largest side is always opposite to the largest interior angle.

To find the largest side in ΔDEF:

Largest angle in ΔDEF is ∠E = 73°

So, the side opposite to 73° is DF.

Therefore, Option D is the correct answer.

Hence the segment DF is the longest side in the ΔDEF.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! ITS DUE TODAY!!!!!!!
mixer [17]

Answer:

$5.83 in taxes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Discounted price of pants: 23.50 × (1 - 0.3) = 16.45

Discounted price of shirts: 16.25 × (1 - 0.25) = 12.1875

Discounted price of hats: 9.75 × (1 - 0.15) = 8.2875

2 pants, 3 shirts, and 1 hat:  16.45(2) + 12.1875(3) + 8.2875(1) = 77.75

Sales tax: 77.75 × 0.075 = 5.83125

Rounded to nearest cent: $5.83 in sales tax
