you try to pick up an object and discover that it is much heavier than you expected. which process must occur in the muscle to i
maw [93]

The process that must occur is the recruitment of motor units.

Muscles allow us to lift heavy things. They are made of fibers, that when they contract themselves, the tension increases, allowing us to lift objects.

When we want to lift a heavy object, our body contracts the necessary muscles that we will use for that. In other words:

  1. The motor neuron that innervates several skeletal fibers sends the signal to them
  2. The fibers contract themselves,
  3. The tension increases, producing the necessary force to lift an object.

If the object is too heavy and we can not lift it, the process that must occur is the recruitment of motor units. That is to say, that more motor neurons with their fiber muscles (motor units) should be activated to increase the number of fibers contracting themselves to lift the heavy object.

In conclusion, the muscle needs more active motor units to lift something heavy, and the body does this through recruitment.
