A park ranger wants to shoot a monkey hanging from a branch of a tree with a tranquilizing dart. The ranger aims directly at the

monkey, not realizing that the dart will follow a parabolic path and thus will fall below the monkey. The monkey, however, sees the dart leave the gun and lets go of the branch to avoid being hit. Will the monkey be hit anyway? Does the velocity of the dart affect your answer, assuming that it is great enough to travel the horizontal distance to the tree before hitting the ground? Defend your answer.

Answer:

Yes it will hit the monkey

Explanation:

Here when park ranger aim the position of monkey and then shoot towards it then in this position the velocity of the dart has two components

v_x = vcos\theta

v_y = vsin\theta

Now when the dart reached the same horizontal distance as that the position of monkey then time taken by it

t = \frac{x}{v cos\theta}

now in the same time the height of the dart is given as

y = (vsin\theta) t - \frac{1}{2}gt^2

y = (vsin\theta)(\frac{x}{vcos\theta}) - \frac{1}{2}g(\frac{x}{vcos\theta})^2

y = x tan\theta - \frac{1}{2}gt^2

here let say monkey is at height H initially then

H = x tan\theta

y = H - \frac{1}{2}gt^2

this above equation also shows the position of monkey after t time of drop

so here dart will hit the monkey

PLS HELP MEEEE (NO LINKS PLEASE)
Brums [2.3K]

Answer:

Gamma rays occupy the short-wavelength end of the spectrum; they can have wavelengths smaller than the nucleus of an atom. Visible light wavesare one-thousandths the width of human hair--about a million times longer than gamma rays. Radio waves, at the long-wavelength end of the spectrum, can be many meters long.

A ball is thrown upward. what is its initial vertical speed? the acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s 2 and maximum height is 4.1
sergij07 [2.7K]

the question is missing another parameter. we need to know the time taken for the ball to come down. You can use the below formula to find the initial vertical speed.

S = 1/2at2 + ut

distance = 1/2 × acceleration × time2 + intial speed × time
