Creating a system of equation :

• 100%a + 85%b = 96% × 150
• a + 0.85b = 144 - - - - (2)

From (1)

• a = 150 - b

Substitute a = 150 - b into (2)

• 150 - b + 0.85b = 144
• -0.15b = 144 - 150
• -0.15b = - 6
• b = 40

From (1)

• a = 150 - b
• a = 150 - 40
• a = 110

Therefore, 40 litres of pure maple syrup and 110 litres of 85% maple syrup will be used.
