-x+y=6    [eq.1]

2x + y = - 12    [eq.2]

    [eq.2] - [eq.1]

2x + y - (-x) - y = - 12 - 6

2x +x =-18

3x=18

x = 18/3

ans: x = 6

substituting x=6 in [eq.1]

-x + y = 6

-6 +y =6

ans: y= 12
