The definition of speed allows finding the answer for the shape of the speed graph of the bee is:

  • The graph would take the shape of a. a v with the point down.

Velocity is defined by the change in position between time in a given interval

         v = \frac{\Delta x}{t}

Where v is the velocity, Dx is the change in position and t is the time

In a graph of velocity versus time we have lines with a positive slope when the velocity increases, lines with a negative slope when the velocity decreases, and lines with a zero slope when the velocity remains constant.

In this case they tell us that the bee leaves the honeycomb and its speed decreases until it reaches the flower, therefore we have a graph with a negative slope.

After the bee returns to the honeycomb with an acceleration, therefore the speed increases, consequently the slope must be positive.

In the attachment we can see a schematic representation of the movement.

Let's analyze the different claims

  • The graph would take the shape of a. a v with the point down.

True. This is similar to the attached graph

  • The graph would take the shape of b. a v with the point up.

False. In motion it begins with a decrease in speed therefore the slope is negative

  • The graph would take the shape of c. a parabola with the legs pointing up.

False. The graph is forming by lines

  • The graph would take the shape of a parabola with the legs pointing down.

False the graph is formed by lines

In conclusion with the definition of speed we can find the result for the form of the speed graph of the bee is:

  • The graph would take the shape of a. a v with the point down.

A student puts a beaker of boiling water where it touches a block of ice.
Bumek [7]

Answer:

Option (A).

Explanation:

When a hot and a cold objects come in thermal contact with each other,exchange of heat takes place between them until thermal equilibrium is reached.

In this process thermal energy flows from high temperature to low.

Therefore, when a beaker of boiling water comes in touch with a block of ice,

Thermal energy starts flowing from boiling water to block of ice until equilibrium is established.

Option (A) will be the answer.

Discuss Joule-Thompson effect with relevant examples and formulae.
Delicious77 [7]

Answer:

\mu _j=\dfrac{1}{C_p}\left [T\left(\frac{\partial v}{\partial T}\right)_p-v\right]dp

Explanation:

Joule -Thompson effect

 Throttling phenomenon is called Joule -Thompson effect.We know that throttling is a process in which pressure energy will convert in to thermal energy.

Generally in throttling exit pressure is low as compare to inlet pressure but exit temperature maybe more or less or maybe remains constant depending upon flow or fluid flow through passes.

Now lets take Steady flow process

Let

 P_1,T_1 Pressure and temperature at inlet and

 P_2,T_2 Pressure and temperature at exit

We know that Joule -Thompson coefficient given as

\mu _j=\left(\frac{\partial T}{\partial p}\right)_h

Now from T-ds equation

dh=Tds=vdp

So

Tds=C_pdt-\left [T\left(\frac{\partial v}{\partial T}\right)_p\right]dp

⇒dh=C_pdt-\left [T\left(\frac{\partial v}{\partial T}\right)_p-v\right]dp

So Joule -Thompson coefficient

\mu _j=\dfrac{1}{C_p}\left [T\left(\frac{\partial v}{\partial T}\right)_p-v\right]dp

This is Joule -Thompson coefficient for all gas (real or ideal gas)

We know that for Ideal gas Pv=mRT

\dfrac{\partial v}{\partial T}=\dfrac{v}{T}

So by putting the values in

\mu _j=\dfrac{1}{C_p}\left [T\left(\frac{\partial v}{\partial T}\right)_p-v\right]dp

\mu _j=0 For ideal gas.
