Twelve people who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome volunteer to take part in an experiment to see if shark fin extract will

increase one's energy level. Eight of the volunteers are men and four are women. Half of the volunteers are to be given shark fin extract twice a day and the other half a placebo twice a day. We wish to make sure that four men and two women are assigned to each of the treatments, so we decide to use a block design with the men forming one block and the women the other.
For which reason is a block design appropriate in this experiment?

Answer:

It seperates the people who are using shark fin and the ones who are using a placebo. That way, that variable is already distinguished and leads to greater accuracy.

An editor has a stack of k documents to review. The order in which the documents are reviewed is random with each ordering being
ladessa [460]

Using the probability concept, it is found that there is a \mathbf{\frac{1}{k}} probability that “Relaxation Through Mathematics” is first to review.

A probability is given by the <u>number of desired outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes</u>.

In this problem:

  • There is a total of k documents to be reviewed, hence T = k.
  • Of those documents, 1 is named “Relaxation Through Mathematics”, hence D = 1

The <em>probability </em>is:

p = \frac{D}{T} = \frac{1}{k}
