The elastic potential energy stored in the spring is <u>0.017J</u>

When a spring is compressed, work is done against the restoring force which is set up in the spring. This work done is stored in the spring as its elastic potential energy.

The expression for elastic potential energy stored in a spring is given by,

E=\frac{1}{2} kx^2

Here, <em>k</em> is the spring constant and <em>x </em>is the compression in the spring.

Substitute 0.12 m for <em>x</em> ans 2.3 n?m for k.

E=\frac{1}{2} kx^2\\ =\frac{1}{2}(2.3 N/m)(0.12 m)^2\\ =0.01656 J=0.017 J

Thus the spring stores 0.017 J as its elastic potential energy when compressed by 0.12 m.

A 31.0 kW electric motor drives a vehicle at an average velocity of 9.20 m/s. Assuming a constant force is applied in the direct
babunello [35]

The magnitude of the applied force is 3369.57 N.

<h3>What is Force?</h3>

Force can be defined as the product of mass and acceleration.

To calculate the magnitude of the applied force, we use the formula below.

Formula:

  • P = Fv................ Equation 1

Where:

  • P = Power of the electric motor
  • F = Applied force
  • v = Velocity

Make F the subject of the equation

  • F = P/v................. Equation 2

From the question.

Given:

  • P = 31 kW = 31000 W
  • v = 9.2 m/s

Substitute these values into equation 2

  • F = 31000/9.2
  • F = 3369.57 N

Hence, the magnitude of the applied force is 3369.57 N.

What happens to the wavelength of a wave on a string when the frequency is doubled
frozen [14]

Answer:

\lambda'=\dfrac{1}{2}\times \lambda

Explanation:

The number of oscillation per unit time is called frequency of a wave while the distance between two consecutive crests and the trough is called its wavelength.

The wavelength of a wave is given by :

\lambda=\dfrac{v}{f}

If frequency is doubled, f' = 2f

\lambda'=\dfrac{v}{f'}

\lambda'=\dfrac{v}{2f}

\lambda'=\dfrac{1}{2}\times \dfrac{v}{f}

\lambda'=\dfrac{1}{2}\times \lambda

So, when the frequency is doubled the wavelength of a wave on the string becomes half.
