A girl ran from her home to a store at the rate of 6 mph, and she walked back home at the rate of 4 mph. if it took 15 minutes f
viva [34]

Home is 0.6 miles away from the store

How to solve such time related questions?

The key concept for solving such questions is the relationship between speed, distance and time.

The relationship between them is Distance = Speed x Time

Given:-

Total time taken by girl to complete the trip = 15 minutes = \frac{1}{4} hours

Speed while riding going = 6 miles per hour

Speed while coming back = 4 miles per hour

Total time taken by girl  =

Time taken while going +   Time taken while coming back      - (1)

  Let x be distance from home to store

       \frac{x}{6} =  Time taken while going

\frac{x}{4} = Time taken while coming back

    Substituting in (1) we get

      \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{x}{6} + \frac{x}{4}

      \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{2x + 3x}{12}

       \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{5x}{12}

      x= \frac{12}{20}

    x = 0.6 miles

Thus home is 0.6 miles away from the store

Answer:

0.156

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that :

% of Explained variance by certain predictors of first year college grade :

SAT 11 scores = 17%

GPA = 15.6%

SAT 1 = 13.3%

Fitting a least squares line :

y = First year college GPA

x = high school GPA

THE r² value which is Coefficient of determination is the percentage of explained variance given by the regression line. The r² value of GPA will the as given above 15.6%

r² = 15.6% = 15.6/100 = 0.156

How many times larger is the 7 in the number 7042 than the 7 in the number 427?
e-lub [12.9K]

Answer:

  1000

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the value of a digit in a number, set all the other digits to zero.

The value of 7 in 7042 is 7000.

The value of 7 in 427 is 007 = 7.

Then the question is "how many times larger is 7000 than 7?" That result is found by dividing 7000 by 7:

  7000/7 = 1000

The 7 in 7042 is 1000 times larger than the 7 in 427.

_____

<em>Another way to consider this</em>

The 7 in 7042 is in the "thousands" place. The 7 in 427 is in the "ones" place. The thousands place is 3 places to the left of the ones place. Each place moved to the left increases the value by a factor of 10, so the value of a digit in the thousands place is 10×10×10 = 1000 times that of the same digit in the ones place.
