Step-by-step explanation:

what the other answer tries to say :

you keep the cubic root on one side, and you combine all other terms (here with 5 and 7 only constants) in the other side :

-cubic root(x² - 9) = 2

now we put both sides to the power of 3 and we get

-(x² - 9) = 8

remember, putting a negative number to an odd power (like 3 or 5 or 7 or ...) delivers as result again a negative value.

and now, I think, the other answer made a mistake. that happens, when you don't write down your thoughts.

so,

-(x² - 9) = 8

-x² + 9 = 8

-x² = -1 (and NOT -17)

x² = 1

x = 1 and x = -1

remember, squaring a negative number delivers the same result as squaring the same positive number. therefore, the square root has always 2 solutions : a positive and a negative one.

so, the right answers are the second and the third ones.

Last one and first. You can find out why by isolating the cube root and cubing both sides.

The shadows of two vertical poles were measured at the same time to be 6m and 15m long. If the first pole is 8cm long, find the
son4ous [18]

Answer:

20 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Shadow of vertical poles : 6m ; 15m

Length of poles : 8cm ; h

8cm long pole = shadow length, 6m

h cm long pole = shadow length, 15 m

Using cross multiplication :

8cm * 15 m = h cm * 6m

120 = 6h

h = 120 / 6

h = 20 cm

Height of second pole = 20cm

Which of the expressions below have exactly 3 terms? Select all that apply.
Fynjy0 [20]

Answer:

C. 6x + 9 - 3x^2

Step-by-step explanation:

We have 4 expressions and are being asked which has 3 terms.

When it comes to terms, terms are numbers that are different, it could be separated through a variable, square root, symbol, e.t.c.

So when looking for an answer, we need 3 numbers with different variables or symbols, let's look

A. only has two, 10x and 8. Therefore it is wrong.

B. has 4 terms, 3x^3, 6x^2, 9x, and 12. Therefore it is wrong.

C. is correct because it has 3 terms, 6x, 9, and 3x^2.

D. has 2 terms, 833 and 12x, though 16 is there, it is the same as 833, therefore not counting it as its own term.
