In a recent study for the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), four researchers looked at the effect of generous unempl

oyment benefits on the local unemployment rate. They compared the unemployment situation in adjoining counties, which happened to lie in two different states that had different laws regarding the amount and duration of unemployment benefits. The authors of the NBER study found that the unemployment rate "rises dramatically in the border counties belonging to the states that expanded unemployment benefit duration" during the Great Recession. Why might this be so? a. With the longer duration of unemployment benefits, firms needed to keep wages high to attract people to work. This caused downward wage rigidity, leading to persistent higher unemployment. b. The longer duration of unemployment benefits encouraged those workers who were unemployed to seek work sooner to avoid having their skills diminish, which increased the time for job search, leading to higher unemployment c. The longer the duration of benefits, the lower the wages become that firms will offer new workers. This caused upward wage rigidly, causing unemployment to rise dramatically. d. All of the above.

Answer:

The correct answer is letter "A": With the longer duration of unemployment benefits, firms needed to keep wages high to attract people to work. This caused downward wage rigidity, leading to persistent higher unemployment.

Explanation:

The Great Recession (2007-2009) is the period in U.S. economics when it suffered a high-scale dwindle as a result of the collapse in the real estate market and the subprime mortgage crisis. The financial sector collapsed as well forcing some banks to declare bankruptcy.

In this context, long-lasting unemployment benefits were provided such us downward wage rigidity, which implied employers were unable to reduce the salaries in dollar terms. By doing that, having low to none income, in order to meet their income objectives, major organizations had to lay off employees directly causing the rate of unemployment increase.

Generally, Colostomy irrigation gives the patient the ability to establish a routine for bowel movements and to dress or use a device with a smaller pouch to cover the stoma.

The stoma should be irrigated with 500-1000 mL of lukewarm water, the bag should be hung 18-24 inches above the stoma, the solution should be slowly infused using the cone-tipped irrigator, and the stool should be allowed to drain through the sleeve and into the toilet.

In conclusion, This will ensure that the stoma is properly irrigated.

Answer: A. British

Explanation:

The British controlled much of the east coast of North America at that time and it was from them that the 13 original states of the United States were formed.

The British eventually took over all of Canada and after defeating the French in the French and Indian war, took much of France's territories. The U.S. took over the rest of French territory with the Louisiana Purchase under the Jefferson administration.

Define the opening arguments and process of a Supreme Court case hearing
gogolik [260]

According to the Constitution, the SCOTUS has both appellate and original jurisdiction. Original jurisdiction means cases that are heard for the first time in the Supreme Court. These are usually high ranking cases that involve disputes between states or between high ranking officials.

Appellate cases make up the majority of cases heard by the SCOTUS. These are cases that have been heard before by lowers courts throughout the country. Unsatisfied parties with a lower court judgment submit a petition to the SCOTUS, called Writ of Certiorari. The SCOTUS then has all the files from the lower court case sent to it for examination. Four of the nine Justices must accept to hear a case for it to be heard by the SCOTUS. If the Justices accept the case, it is placed on the docket of cases to hear. The petitioner is granted a certain amount of time to write his brief on the case (no more than 50 pages). The opposite party, called the respondent, also has some time to submit its 50 pages brief.

After this initial process, both parties respond to each other’s brief with a shorter brief. The SCOTUS may also grant permissions to groups that are not directly involved in the legal dispute to provide their own file with recommendations and arguments in favor of the side they support. Such brief is called amicus curiae (friend of the Court, in Latin). The SCOTUS hears the oral arguments for both parties sometime between October and April. These proceedings are open to the public and usually start at 10am. Each hearing lasts an hour and each party has 30 minutes to present its argument. The hearing is interrogative (Justices ask questions to each party about their position). Petitioners speak first and respondents follow suit. If petitioners have saved time for a rebuttal, they will be the last to speak.

The Justices meet twice every week to review the cases and vote on a decision. This meeting is called the Justices’ Conference. After the result of the vote is available, any dissenting Justices may write a dissenting opinion on the final decision. If they vote ends up in a tie (because one of the Justices is unavailable), the lower court’s decision stands. In very rare occasions, a majority opinion may be changed if a Justice reverses his/her vote. It is only when opinions are disclosed in public open court hearings that they are official and final.

While doing laundry, Michelle found several old receipts for hotel rooms, flowers, and expensive gifts in her husband’s pants po
Svetach [21]

Answer:Michelle is using RATIONALISATION to minimize

Explanation:

Rationalization is a defence mechanism in which we try to give a rational or logical explanation of a situation in order to escape the real meaning of it or justify an action , this is done so that we can tolerate a situation or make it look better than it is hence we will not feel worse about it.

Michelle is trying to convince herself that her husband isn't cheating which will calm her cause if she were to explain all these cues in the exact way that they seem to indicate it may be devastating for her so to make this matter tolerable for herself she would rather find a logical explanation that would make her feel better.
