________________________________

<u>Given:</u>

(2+√3)+(4-√3)

<u>To Find:</u>

Evaluate the expression

<u>Solution:</u>

<u>⇨</u><u>Step 1:</u>

Remove the parentheses

(2+√3)+(4-√3)

When there is + or no sign in front of an expression in parentheses, the expression remains the same

= 2 + √3+ 4-√3

<u>⇨</u><u>Step 2:</u>

Cancel the opposite terms √3 and -√3

"Two numbers are opposites if they have the same absolute value but different signs"

= 2 + 4

<u>⇨</u><u>Step 3:</u>

Add the numbers

= 6

<u>Hence (2+√3)+(4-√3) = 6</u><u>.</u>

Sati [7]

Answer:

\frac{2}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

A car starts with a dull tank of gas

1/7 of the gas has been used around the city.

With the rest of the gas in the car, the car can travel to and from Ottawa three times.

Question asked:

What fractions of a tank of gas does each complete trip to Ottawa use?

Solution:

Fuel used around the city = \frac{1}{7}

Remaining fuel after driving around the city = 1 - \frac{1}{7}

                                                                         =    \frac{7 - 1}{7}  = \frac{6}{7}

According to question:

As from the rest of the gas in the car that is \frac{6}{7}, the car can complete 3 trip to Ottawa  which means,

By unitary method:

The car can complete 3 trip by using = \frac{6}{7} tank of gas.

The car can complete 1 trip by using =  \frac{6}{7} \div 3

                                                             =\frac{6}{7} \times\frac{1}{3}

                                                             =  \frac{6}{21}

                                                             = \frac{2}{7} tank of gas

Thus, \frac{2}{7} tank of gas used for each complete trip to Ottawa.

In isosceles right triangle ABC, point is on hypotenuse \overline{BC} such that \overline{AD} is an altitude of \triangle ABC an
Dmitriy789 [7]

Answer:

Area of triangle is 25.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given an isosceles right triangle

Isosceles triangle is the triangle having two sides equal.

Figure is shown in attachment

By Pythagoras theorem

BC^2=AC^2+AB^2

AD is altitude which divides the triangle into two parts

DC=5 implies BC =10 since D equally divides BC

Let AC=a implies AB=a being Isosceles

On substituting the values in the Pythagoras theorem:

10^2=a^2+a^2

100=2a^2

\Rightarrow a^2=50

\Rightarrow a=\pm5\sqrt{2}

WE can find area of right triangle by considering height AB and AD

Area of triangle ABC is:

\frac{1}{2}\cdot BC\cdot AD     (1)

\Rightarrow \frac{1}{2}\cdot 10\cdot AD

And other method of area of triangle is:

\frac{1}{2}\cdot AB\cdot BC       (2)

Equating (1) and (2) we get:

\frac{1}{2}\cdot 10\cdot AD=\frac{1}{2}\cdot a\cdot a

\Rightarrow AD=\frac{a^2}{10}

\Rightarrow AD=\frac{50}{10}=5

Using area of triangle is: \frac{1}{2}\cdot BC\cdot AD

Now, the area of triangle ABC=\frac{1}{2}\cdot 5\cdot 10

\Rightarrow 25
