Speaker Placement. A stereo receiver is in a corner of a 14-ft by 48-ft room. Speaker wire will run under a rug, diagonally,

to a speaker in the far corner. If 3 feet of slack is required on each end, how long a piece of wire should be purchased?

Answer:

56 ft

Explanation:

The rectangular room has length 14 ft breadth 48 ft.

A speaker is in the far corner of the room. The couch is in between the speaker and receiver. So, length of wire would be the length of the diagonal with the 3 ft slack at both ends.

From Pythagoras theorem we get

Length²+Breadth²=Hypotenuse²

14^2+48^2=h^2\\\Rightarrow h=\sqrt{14^2+48^2}\\\Rightarrow h=\sqrt{2500}\\\Rightarrow h=50\ ft

Length of diagonal is 50 ft

So, with 3 feet of slack on both ends we get

50+3+3 = 56 ft

Length of wire is 56 ft.

We have two solenoids: solenoid 2 has twice the diameter, half the length, and twice as many turns as solenoid 1. The current in
leva [86]

Answer:

the field at the center of solenoid 2 is 12 times the field at the center of solenoid 1.

Explanation:

Recall that the field inside a solenoid of length L, N turns, and a circulating current I, is given by the formula:

B=\mu_0\, \frac{N}{L} I

Then, if we assign the subindex "1" to the quantities that define the magnetic field (B_1) inside solenoid 1, we have:

B_1=\mu_0\, \frac{N_1}{L_1} I_1

notice that there is no dependence on the diameter of the solenoid for this formula.

Now, if we write a similar formula for solenoid 2, given that it has :

1) half the length of solenoid 1 . Then L_2=L_1/2

2) twice as many turns as solenoid 1. Then N_2=2\,N_1

3) three times the current of solenoid 1. Then I_2=3\,I_1

we obtain:

B_2=\mu_0\, \frac{N_2}{L_2} I_2\\B_2=\mu_0\, \frac{2\,N_1}{L_1/2} 3\,I_1\\B_2=\mu_0\, 12\,\frac{N_1}{L_1} I_1\\B_2=12\,B_1

A concave lens has a focal length of -31 {cm}. Find the image distance and magnification that results when an object is placed 2
kolezko [41]

Answer:

The value is v  =  440 \  cm

and

 m  =  16

Explanation:

From the question we  are told that

    The image  distance is  v  =  29 \  cm

    The focal length is f =  -31 \  cm

From the lens equation we have that

      \frac{1}{f}  =  \frac{1}{v}  - \frac{1}{u}

=>    \frac{1}{-31}  =  \frac{1}{v}  - \frac{1}{29}

=>     v  =  450 \  cm

Generally the magnification  is

      m  =  \frac{v}{u}

=>    m  =  \frac{ 450}{29}

=>    m  =  16
