Answer:

x = 7, y = 6

(7,6)

Step-by-step explanation:

2x + y =20

6x - 5y = 12

2x + y = 20

-2x     -2x

y = -2x + 20

6x - 5y = 12

6x - 5(-2x + 20) = 12

6x + 10x - 100 = 12

16x - 100 = 12

     + 100  +100

16x = 112

/16    /16

x = 7

Now, we solve for y:

2x + y = 20

2(7) + y = 20

14 + y = 20

-14      -14

y = 6

(x, y) -> (7,6)

Hope this helps!

1.

2x + y = 20 (multiply this equation by 5 in order to get rid of y by addition of both equations)

6x - 5y = 12

2.

10x + 5y = 100

6x - 5y = 12

(add both equations to get the below equation)

16x = 112

3. Do simple math:

x = 112/16

x = 7

4. plug in the x (7) into the first equation

2x + y =20

2*7 + y = 20

14 + y = 20

y = 6

(x, y)

answer: (7,6)

A truck driver drove 120 miles in 1 3/4 hours. What is the speed of the truck in miles per hour? PLEASE HELP
Assoli18 [71]
Turn 1 3/4 into a decimal number: 1.75
So, 120 miles in 1.75 hours, but we want to know miles in *one* hour. Divide both numbers by 1.75. 120/1.75 miles in 1.75/1.75 hour = 120/1.75 miles in 1 hour. 120/1.75 is 68.57 miles in one hour, so 68.57 mph.
